WEEK 2

YTD 1-0 – Pac 10 Game of the Week

Nearly full slate to start the year, including tonight’s return to Division I football for my favorite head coach, Mike Price. This fat guy rolls around with two hot strippers, buys drinks for the entire greek system and gets fired. Alabama should be ashamed of themselves.

Pac 10 Game of the Week

OREGON STATE +18.5 AT LSU

Well, we hashed this out pretty good in a previous thread, so I’m not going to go into great detail. If OSU scores just one touchdown, then LSU has to score 26, and I just don’t see them scoring that much. LSU is breaking in a new QB and several new skill position players, and it will take them time to gel against a very good Oregon State defense.

Look for a low-scoring affair, a game closer than most people are projecting. Wouldn’t even be surprised to see Oregon State leading at half-time and then folding it up in the second half.

Final Score – LSU 23 – OSU 13

Rest of the Pac 10

Tonight ASU, a not so good football team, is favored by 25 over a bad football team. ASU will probably put up 40+, but I don’t think they will hold UTEP below 20. Mike Price is a damn good football coach and he did some wonderful things at Washington State with some marginal talent. I’ll take the points.

Washington State lost a boatload of talent last year and starts the year off at an improving New Mexico program, coached by former UCLA assistant Rocky Long. New Mexico had some losses too, and I think NMSU got exposed a bit in last year’s Las Vegas bowl. I got this game at even, line has moved in WSU’s favor. I always take Pac-10 talent over Mountain West talent, so I’m on the Cougs.

Oklahoma State travels to UCLA in what could be the week’s best game. UCLA was really bad last year, and lost a ton on the defensive side of the ball. But can Oklahoma State, which lost three stars on offense, pull off an upset on the road? Nah…

The overhyped Cal Bears play at Air Force, a place no one really likes to play against a team no one really likes to play. Air Force rarely loses at home, but this year they return only six starters from an average team last year. Cal should have their way here, but don’t be surprised if Air Force hangs around.

Stanford is a really bad football team favored heavily over another really bad team, San Jose State. Stanford has beat SJSU pretty good the past two years under Buddy Teevins, who is on the hot seat big time. Look for Stanford to roll. Pac 10 game of the week potential on this one.

Arizona starts the year against Division II Northern Arizona and look for Mike Stoops to try to make a statement against a fairly good Division II team.

Finally, Washington, a team that used to be dominant at home, has to open the year against a Fresno State team that thrives on beating Pac 10 teams. I wouldn’t touch this game with someone else’s money, let alone my own. I’ll pick the underdog.

Final Predictions:
Arizona State -25 vs. UTEP: ASU 44 – UTEP 21
Washington State – 1 at New Mexico: WSU 24 – New Mexico 19
UCLA – 1 vs. Oklahoma State: UCLA 21 – OSU 17
Cal -13 at Air Force: Cal 41 – Air Force 21
Stanford -17.5 vs. SJSU: Stanford 41 – SJSU 17
Arizona (NL) vs. Northern Arizona: Arizona 31 – Northern Arizona 20
Washington -3 vs. Fresno State: Fresno State 27 – Washington 24

Good Luck to all.

WC,

I believe Stanford will roll on SJSU.

What are your thoughts on the banged up UCLA D? I'm looking at the game as a possible under.

Thanks,

Pez

Pez,

You can see from my predicted score that I like the under also. There is a lot of pressure on UCLA this year, I think this game sets the tone for the year.

FWIW, I am also playing the under in the WSU/NMSU game.

I agree with your take on Mike Price. What amazes me is that he waited until he left Washington State to start acting like a WSU man; go figure!

Very nice analysis and write-up.

I don't know a lot about the Pac-10, so I really enjoy your thread. Thanks for the info.

YTD PAC 10 GAME OF THE WEEK: 2-0 ATS
YTD ALL PAC 10 GAMES: 6-2 ATS

Quick thoughts...What happened to Washington (THE U) and UCLA's football programs? Wow they are bad. Cal looked very good. Oregon State suffered a brutal loss but gets the four best Pac 10 teams at home this year so they could make a run with that defense. Props to Stanford and Arizona.
