SI.com: Is Pablo Sandoval on his way out of Boston in just the second season of his five-year, $95 million contract with the Red Sox?

Speculation that Sandoval's time with the team is coming to an end ran rampant on Wednesday, when the Red Sox, who benched Sandoval in favor of Travis Shaw to start the season, placed the veteran third baseman on the disabled list with a left shoulder strain that the team didn’t bother to use an MRI to diagnose.

Ex-trainer says Pablo Sandoval needs baby sitter to control weight:

I think that he’s embarrassed right now,” Banning said. “I think there’s going to come this moment that he’s going to show everybody that this is not who he is. … I don’t know that it’s going to be with me, but he’s going to hire somebody like that. I think he’s likely going to figure it out. But it’s not going to be this season, and likely not with the Red Sox, the way it looks.” (Boston Herald)

Major league sources told Yahoo Sports: Sandoval wants to stay in Boston only if he can play every day, and the Red Sox have no intention of playing him unless he loses weight and others in their current lineup struggle. (Yahoo! Sports)

His belt breaking the other day was classic

Making all the money to play ball and can't even control his weight. Pathetic if you ask me

The Giants Banned Hotel Room Service For Pablo Sandoval So He Wouldn't Overeat

While Pablo Sandoval remains on the disabled list, the Red Sox third baseman’s relationship with food is being scrutinized. Comcast Sports Net’s Sean McAdam was on Toucher and Rich today and reported that when Sandoval was with the San Francisco Giants, the team made sure he couldn’t order room service from the hotels during road trips.

I know somebody whose job it was to check in on Sandoval in the offseason, in South Florida where he was supposed to be getting into shape, and he told me he would show up at this gym at 7:00 in the morning, and said, “I couldn’t beat him there.” In other words, Sandoval was already there when he showed up, every time, unannounced at 7:00. He would stay there for the entire morning, and then you see what kind of shape he showed up in, so it isn’t an unwillingness to work. Look, I’m not even playing a doctor on the radio this morning, but it certainly seems like this guy has some sort of significant eating disorder, because if you’re putting that much time in at the gym, and it’s supervised, and it’s all programmed out, and then you walk into camp, the way he did, you must be eating an awful lot to counteract the work you’re doing.

And I’ll tell you another anecdote. This is how concerned the Giants were when he played for them ... they would make special arrangements at the hotel the Giants were staying in to not allow him to order room service. They would tell the front desk management, “If he calls down for room service at night after games, do not send anything to this room.” They went to great measures to try to cut down on those eating binges, and it would only work for a time because he would find someplace to get food.

Meanwhile, Sandoval’s former trainer Ethan Banning talked to the Boston Herald about how difficult it was to get the MLBer to monitor his weight. Banning said that Sandoval once gained 21 pounds in 21 days, and had legitimate problems with controlling how much he ate:

“I care about him greatly,” said Banning, who lost touch with Sandoval after the 2011-12 offseason. “But it’s a tough love. He needs to be smart enough to say there’s a problem. It’s like the alcoholic that won’t admit he’s an alcoholic: well, you can’t address that you’re an alcoholic if you don’t ever admit there’s a problem. He’s got to address that.

“He’s proven to me and shown consistently that he’s got to have somebody like me holding his hand doing that. And it’s not an exercise thing, it’s an eating thing. Obviously exercise is an important factor in it, a very important factor, but eating is going to be the component that needs to be managed and monitored. We had a chef on staff that cooked all his meals.”

Eddie Lacy looks 'remarkable' after offseason of P90X work

</header>Eddie Lacy's struggles with his weight are well documented, and after an underwhelming effort for the Packers in 2015, his coach called him out on not being in shape.

But thanks largely to his work with P90X fitness guru Tony Horton,

Lacy's physical appearance has taken a turn for the positive this offseason.

Albert Breer of NFL Network reported Tuesday that Lacy's progress is "remarkable" and the expectations with his return to the Packers are starting to get pretty high.

"Speaking to people around Lacy, the work that he's done over the course of the last few months with P90x founder Tony Horton, it's been remarkable the shape he's gotten himself into," Breer said. "It doesn't mean a lot of weight loss, but he has been able to redistribute a lot of the weight from his midsection into his shoulders and his arms.
"I know the people around Eddie Lacy really feel like the Packers are going to be happy with what they see when Lacy reports for the offseason program next week."

Lacy popped up on Facebook recently -- in a picture that was later deleted -- and looked absolutely svelte.

Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski said Friday that there's "a lot going on" with Tubbys left shoulder and he could require surgery.

The comments come shortly after we found out Sandoval will seek a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews. It's unclear how Sandoval was initially injured or the specifics of the ailment, but it's obvious at this point that it's something that could keep him on the shelf for a long time.

Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe hers from a source that Pablo Sandoval faces "significant" surgery on his left shoulder.

The Red Sox have yet to announce the details of the surgery, but Abraham hears that the "odds are against" Sandoval playing this season.

The Red Sox haven't missed him in the early part of the season, as Travis Shaw has taken advantage of regular playing time at third base by batting .322/.390/.533 over 25 games. For what it's worth, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal hears that Sandoval's contract with the Red Sox is not insured. The first two years of his contract have been a disaster.

Sandoval's contract with Boston is not insured.

When a contract is not insured, a team cannot recoup any money. That is the case here with Fat Ass.

Sandoval underwent season-ending surgery Tuesday to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

Just as many national media members had been reporting. Sandoval appeared in only three games this season for the Red Sox after showing up to camp out of shape and losing his starting third base job to Travis Shaw.

He is still owed $58 million guaranteed.
