I have seen Notre Dame at 9, wih the over at +110. I think that this team is very hard to predict. They play a very watered down schedule. USC and Pitt are the only two teams they play with somewhat legitimate chances to win their conferences. Nevada, the two Washingtons, Navy, UConn, and Michigan is the base for a solid 6 wins. Boston College is weak this year. If Notre Dame plays up to their ability, they should win 10 games, but when has this team done that since the arrival of Fat Charlie? A pass for me.

My site has it at 9. I am leaning towards the over. Granted, I am a ND guy. Here's how I see the season going.

Nevada - WIN - (Wolfpack have very good offense but a very bad D)
Michigan - WIN -I'm glad this is early in the season. They still need time to catch on to all of RichRod's nuances.
MSU - WIN - Tough game to call. MSU will be a good team. I just think this is a year where ND finally has experience on their side. That, coupled with the fact that the game is in South Bend (I know this generally doesn't matter in the series) point to an Irish win.
Purdue - WIN - PU is still down.
Washington - WIN - Locker is not enough to keep UW in this game, especially at ND.
USC - LOSS - Too much talent, even with the loss of most of their D. I think ND may keep it interesting (at least more interesting than last year) but in the end USC will be too good. I would have liked ND's chances more if this game was in early September.
BC - LOSS - This is another tough game to call. I just hate when ND plays BC. I know that BC is down a little this year, but I just have a feeling. I think BC's young QB will give the Irish fits. Granted, this game is at ND, which will help the Irish quite a bit. This is more of a gut call than anything.
WSU - WIN - ND has too much talent for Wash St to hang.
Navy - WIN - They always give us fits, but I don't think it will be close this year.
Pitt - WIN - After last year's fiasco I think ND takes this game going away. I still don't like the QB situation at Pitt, and with Shady gone their running game is bound to suffer.
UCONN - WIN - UConn will be down a bit this year. ND has too much talent, especially at the skilled positions. I'm just glad Donald Brown is in the NFL.
Stanford - WIN - Another game that worries me. Harbaugh has done pretty well there. I think talent wins out in the end of a relatively close game.

I have ND going 10-2. Weis better hope so. The one given is that USC will beat the Irish. The question for me is where the other loss will come from. I think the possibilities are MSU, BC, Pitt and Stanford. I picked BC, but could very well be wrong on this one. I do think they will lose at least one of these 4 games, if not 2. I see no worse than 9 wins, likely 10.

9 is really high. I was hoping for 8. I agree...ND never lives up to the hype.

Take it from a homer, I think the worst ND can do this year is 9 wins. Anything less and it will be a disaster.

They exceeded expectations--you could even say over-achieved--in 2005

If I were you I wouldn't be leaning to the over when you are scared about so many games. ND will definitely not win @ Pitt going away with the good defense they have. You don't typically have revenge games on the road....

Notre Dame has much more of a shot losing to Michigan State than to Boston College. B.C. is picked by most to finish near the bottom of the ACC Atlantic, while Michigan State is picked to fight it out for 3rd in the Big 10. That, plus the fact that Notre Dame finds way of losing to Michigan State at home, (0-5 in their last 5 at South Bend) tells me that I will take MSU and the points rather than B.C. and the points.

Pitt could be another stumbling block for the Irish, but Notre Dame plays very well at Pitt. The problem is that Notre Dame is 0-5 after the Navy game in the past 5 years. Other than these games and the obvious big game against USC, the Irish have a very easy schedule. Whether or not they live up to their pre-season hype is another matter all together.

ND can't beat MSU or BC. Anything more than two losses is a bad year with that schedule. My money still won't be on the over. Too many bad memories of the Pitt and Syracuse games last year.

Notre Dame should win 10 games with that schedule. They have an enormous amount of talent from their past three recruiting classes, a suffocating D and a chip on their shoulder. I know it's trendy to hate on Notre Dame...but don't be foolish and lose people money around here.

ND wins 10 I agree. Offensively they are loaded and their schedule is weak as can be. Easiest schedule theyve had in awhile.

I would go with the under 9 or pass for several reasons:

1. First of all, ND is not loaded. This is a team only 2 years removed from being completely pathetic and uncompetitive. It takes many years of excellent recruiting and development of players to recover from that level of incompetence.

2. Notre Dame was an extremely mediocre to below average team last year. They lost to a dreadful Syracuse team at home, got manhandled by a very average Michigan State team, and got utterly destroyed by Southern CAL. They could not even muster over 100 yards of offense against Southern Cal. Even lowly Michigan outgained ND by well over 100 yards, but tossed in 6 turnovers to hand ND the game on a silver platter. Hell, ND almost lost to a totally awful San Diego State team at home too.

3. There are many games on their schedule which i would consider to be toss-ups. Nevada certainly has the firepower to pull an upset, I think ND should be an underdog at Michigan (they won't be, but they should), the Michigan State game is a complete toss-up, and the games vs. Pitt and BC are toss-ups as well. Add in a certain loss vs. USC and there is a good chance they win 8 or less.

My prediction is that ND will not have a great season record wise and Charlie Weis will be shown the road. Jon Gruden, who will be working Monday Nights on ESPN will be patrolling the sidelines in South Bend next year.

I think the one thing that people tend to forget about Notre Dame is the fact that Weis is a lousy HC. He has proven this time and time again. He is just more proof that NFL coaches do not belong in the NCAA, and vice versa.

This is what scares me about the Over 9. When you get pushed around the field by SD St and Syracuse, the questions will arise.

The question for me is whether or not this "veteran" line can open up holes so they can establish a run game, something they have been lacking for the last 2 seasons. Clausen has to have way more control and cut out the bad INT's. 10 wins is possible, but 8 or 9 is more realistic.

One thing is certain, they haven't opened holes vs MSU in basicallly 10 years.

I agree that ND has talent...but haven't they always had talent? I hope ND fans aren't basing this season on how ND did in their bowl game against a Hawaii team who is arguablly in the bottom 35-40 of teams in the country.

I can see ND struggling mightly at Michigan in a game dominated by the underdog (in this case Mich will be the dog). I think they can lose to BC (they were dominated vs BC last year), they can surely lose to Pitt. I also think Michigan St (who always plays them well) plays them well yet again. USC is still USC. If I were ND, getting a 1st down before halftime would be a realistic achievement in that game. I think Stanford will be MUCH tougher then the ND faithful think as well.

Charlie needs to not be like Charlie this season in order for them to be successful. And finally, Jimmy Clausen needs to not throw dumb INT after dumb INT.
