OU suffers from a 40% attrition rate, which means they are getting about 60% of the class on the field for meaningful reps. For a big time school I'm not sure this is better, worse or about average. I would need to see the numbers. You do realize that there are years where some attrition is a good thing don't you? Sometimes it's better to trim the fat early rather than have a player hang around 4 or 5 years without any meaningful contributions. Many have enough sense to see the writing on the wall that they are too far down the depth chart to ever play a meaningful down for OU, and they go elsewhere where they can start. I see it happen all the time Now if the players leaving are all highly sought after recruits, that's another story. But like I said, I would want to know how that averages out against all of the other major power 5 schools attrition rates before i call it a problem.

If I were a Division II school head coach, I'd wax Saban's and Malzahn's cars each week to gain an advantage for the two schools transfers. Transfers will always happen for various reasons...most of the time the player realizes he AIN'T going to get playing time.

Agree, this happens at all schools. It usually happens over the course of the 4-5 years from the time the class signs (rather than in 1 or 2 years), but it happens. Kids get to school and the coaches (or the kid) realize they are not "SEC" or "B12" caliber and they are forced out one way or another (on their own...or "asked" to move on).

North Alabama (a D2 school) has benefited from D1 transfers for years (especially when Baby Bowden was there).

The attrition rate is rather comical considering the records of OU and Texas over the past few years.

My OU thread covers some of this but right now OU is deeper than in recent years at almost every position. The coaching changes are helping now and will help in further recruiting also.

I'll say one thing about "ol JB Longhorn......he does have a handle on the roster of new women that show-up at the Austin Campus each year.
Rumor has it, he is in the (know) regarding the head-count of the damsels on campus as far north as Norman and even Lawrence & Lincoln. We all know how aggressive those women can be, but he keeps them in line.

Don' t cut JB short.....especially on game day when these women swarm all-over him something terrible. I don't know about you guys but I cut JB a lot of slack.

This happened at Nebraska for Bo's first couple of classes. They brought in kids just to fill spots with a lot of busts. Then his second class flopped at Dline, which become really apparent by year 1 in the Big Ten. By years end they got ran over with a DE having to play inside. I've listened to some talking heads go over it class by class, was pretty eye opening. Maybe it's just a Youngstown thing?

Texas offensive lineman transferring to Auburn....

Yep, Darius James, a former five-star prospect, is transferring to Auburn. James started a few games
at right tackle and also played some games at right guard. He will have two years of eligibility remaining
after sitting out the 2015 season. A native of Kileen, Texas, James was ranked the No. 34 overall prospect
in the country in 2013.

Another loss for HC Strong. Last year, the excuse was that he was a new HC and was cleaning house. There is NO excuse for this year. The fact is that the kids do not like to play for HC's like Strong and Harbaugh. This "My way or the highway" approach simply does not cut it with today's kids. Just exactly what have these two HC's won?

40% is normal. Can't get link your work but Google 'attrition rates volnation' there's a spreadsheet with data since 2002

OU's numbers are also somewhat skewed because they had an extra bad attrition year in 2011. But I'm not making any excuses for OU. Like Texas, much of their attrition can be attributed to very poor recruiting evaluations where they didn't look hard enough at a player's personal character. But almost all of those OU coaches are gone. So it remains to be seen what this new staff does. In the case of the last couple of years, I'm not sure having attrition off a shitty team is a bad thing. I remember that quote from John Mckay after a shitty season at USC. "I've got good news and bad news. The good news is we have most of our starters back next year. The bad news is we have most of our starters back next year."

I've always heard that coaches would be happy if 5 recruits would start per class...that this would be a successful class...
