Had it for 10 years and love it. Only time it goes out is when you get the really heavy rains (maybe 1-2 times a year). There is no reason to get anything else if you can get DTV. Only service that you can get NFL also.

Dish Network charged me $25 to switch plans.

They also tried to charge me $150 for installation when the dish & receiver were already installed by the previous owner of the house.

Awful.

love direct tv. if the dish is installed CORRCETLY, you wont have any problems. also if you have a big or wide screen tv, the direct tv signal looks alot better. one more thing, depending on your market, direct tv will be offering roughly 150 hd channels. obviously the program has to be broadcast in hd.

very true, ours was installed by the home theatre company and no problems to report, little extra cost but worth it imo. mikey i'm curious where you can find info on the hd channels, this is the entire reason i got the wide screen and only have 10 hd channels in my area?

on the direct tv home page, under LATEST NEWS, they have very basic info. a friend of mine is an independant contractor for them and thinks the hd channels will be ready by august in select markets. i am in the boston area and usually get in at the start

That is bullshit. There are like 10 HD channels right now, and they've been saying they're getting more for years now. I'll believe it when I see it.

The NFL package is the biggest ripoff ever, they nickel and dime you the whole time. It's $269 for the regular games, and you gotta add another $100 for the HD games. All this when I can already watch 3-4 HD games every week for free over the air with no cable. By the way, you have to buy your own seperate antenna to get your local HD channels.

If you've got more than 1 TV in the house, they charge you for additional ones, not to mention you gotta pay for the receivers. Did I mention there's a 2 year contract?

Directv is only for people who live in the middle of nowhere, and can't get cable. Verizon FIOS is laying fiber optic cable everywhere right now. Get that when it's available in your area, save yourself a lot of headaches.

i love the football pkg and have never once paid $269. maybe you are a lay down buyer. if you want hd on more than 1 tv and you have cable, you pay for the box too. they eliminated the seperate antenna a year and half ago, and when you needed it, it was FREE. YOU ARE EITHER MISTAKEN OR GOT TAKEN. SORRY

I have FIOS and love it. You can't beat their $99/month bundle for phone, internet and TV. I don't think they offer the NFL ticket yet, but if it costs $400 to get that with HD I think I'd rather pocket that money and go to the local sports bar if there's a game I really want to see that is not on national broadcast but that's just me.

I love Directv...have had it for 5+ years. The outage time is less that 0.05% for the month. Their channel line-up they have are grouped better than Dish Network...IMO

They just added the Tennis channel...and the French Open mix channel is a great free service. Its not cheap but well worth the $$

They have been dragging their feet on adding more hd channels but that will end soon, as they are sending up a new satellite. By fall they will be adding

Coming in September:

A&E
Animal Planet
CineMax
Discovery Channel (simulcast)
Food Network
HGTV
History Channel
MHD (MTV)
NFL Network (Full-Time)
Science Channel
Showtime West
Starz! East
Starz! West
Starz! Edge
Starz! Comedy
Starz Kids & Family
The Movie Channel
The National Geographic Channel
TLC
The Weather Channel
Versus/Golf

Fall 2007:

Big Ten Network
Bravo
Cartoon
Chiller
CNBC
CNN
FX
Sci-Fi
Sleuth
Speed
TBS
USA

December 2007:

The Tennis Channel

Spring 2008

Disney Channel
Toon Disney
ABC Family
ESPN News
MGM

+ all the regional sports networks in high def.

I get almost all the sports packages and you cannot beat it. I never paid that much for the nfl package?? Directv crushes everything else, sometimes the signal goes if it is heavy heavy rain but it is still so worth it.
