So what pyramid scheme are you trying to get me to do again?

How's this for a revolutionary answer: NONE

Look, I feel your pain, schemes are out there and I hate them. I try my best to talk my friends out of them but people still fall for them.

But making money on eBay is really not that hard. You just gotta approach it the old-fashioned way: Find a good product, contact the manufacturer, make a wholesale deal with them, buy low, sell high. Repeat as necessary.

That's all I'm doing. I made a solid contact in China, I send him money, he sends me my product, I sell it, end of story.

Pretty much says it all there, doesn't it? I wouldn't quit your day job.

A friend of mine who lives down in Fort Worth plays drums in a rock band and sells rock t-shirts in Ebay on the side. He's well known around the country and has had articles written about him in the music collectors magazine Goldmine...He told me he makes a killing because there's no overhead with his business..He makes all of the t-shirts that he sells himself. He's got quite a setup in his house. You walk into a large room and he's got wall to wall t-shirts ready to sell. And drumsets that he's collected from all over the world from Ringo Starr's to Keith Moon's..Quite a collection of stuff..If he ever wanted to sell his drumkits alone he could become a rich man. Like I said before, if you can find your niche in Ebay on one certain item. And learn everything there is to learn about it, you can be a success. But you have to be ready to dedicate alot of time to it if you want to make some real money.

And what exactly is wrong with that?

Every single piece of plastic in your house right now is from China.
Why? Because the US doesn't have a plastics industry
Why? Because no one wants a plastics factory near them . . . Ever heard of NIMBY?

You can't have it both ways. We need China to produce stuff that we use but don't want to produce. I'm just the guy in the middle

And for buyers buying big-ticket items - know your seller. Feedback is a valuable tool.

gosooners, not having an overhead is the key part of the equation...you dont have to crack that monthly nut off the top...dont have to advertise (eBay does that heavily around the holidays)....ya you pays listing fees and final sales fees but that pales in comparsion when you dont have a to pay rent/electric etc or advertise....i pay 15.95 for the basic ebay store and now i get the new powerseller discount every month (i think its 5-10% off my bills) bc my ratings are so high and they made the gallery listing which was 35cents free that goes a long way for me bc i run so many listings a month....

This seller is really scum, but his coins aren't counterfeit, just "problem" coins.

Even a non-numismatist should be able to see this offering from the same guy, looks bad.

Everything he offers is problematic... and somewhat rare. Dude buys problems, sells as raw. Lots of crap like this with coins on ebay.

The 1819 half is just proof of what he does, I didn't find that history, somebody else did, on a coin forum.

Don't touch coins on ebay if you aren't an expert !

That half looks pretty good, I'd be shocked if it doesn't go for $500+, original seller sold it honestly.

Yeah, I agree..The overhead part can be a killer..People were really starting to get pissed off at Ebay's listing fees..A friend of mine sales vintage guitars through Ebay..But he told me he's about done with them because of their high listing fees on high dollar items..But Ebay probably got a few sellers back when they went to the free gallery..35 cents a listing savings is a big deal for people who are selling small ticket items. If I get back to it again I'll probably get the Power Seller discount..I've got over 1000 feedback reviews in Ebay with 100% positive...That alone really helped my sales.

Ebay is like a giant garage sale..Five years ago you could sell about anything in it and make a profit..Now you really need to have something very rare. The other alternative is to introduce something brand new on the market in Ebay, and sell as much as you can before other sellers start to catch wind...This is the main problem with the sight..There's now simply too much worldwide competetion. Have you tried other sights? I've sold stuff in Craig's List..And it's free to list your items in there as opposed to Ebay's outrageous fees..

I have to disagree about things being rare. Just did some spring cleaning and sold a few things on their. 35 mm camera (not digital), v-tech education toy for younger children, and a few other items. My neighbor across the street, I actually cannot stand the fcker but he sells just about everything inlcuding old clothes that are in good condition.

it needs to be something you can't easily get locally (thus avoiding shipping charges).

One might be able to sell an 8-track tape player, or a reel to reel type player on ebay, or a Beta VCR, for pretty decent money. It might be difficult to find one ?

I only sell like video games after i dont play them anymore. Nothing to make a profit, but I get a lot more then trading them in at gamestop.

Ebay has become so big, I think Craigslist is a better option.

If your "buddies buddy" is really making good money selling, I'd hit him up for some tips, because everyone & their mother is trying to get rich selling crap on Ebay. If I had to guess, I'd say that about .01% of them really are.

Just spoke to him today. I dont even want to repeat what he does. Geees....A lot like what Doug said though.
