Me and my buddy have been on a family plan for the last few years but he got behind on cash and I am tired of paying the cell phone bill in full since we run about $150 a month for the two of us.

Anyway, I need a new cell phone but my credit is not that great and I don't want to pay like $500 deposit to get a line in my name. Anyone have any advice on a good cell phone company that isn't T-Mobile (hated them) that won't charge an arm and a leg to get set up?

Never heard of having to pay a deposit.

That means you have good credit. I screwed mine up when I was 18 and am now paying for it.

Don't mind this laughing dog... I had a request from Vanessa to add it in the post...

Jake.. get a pre-paid phone

ATT has go-phones you can switch to a contract I think.. also whoever your provider is now call and have them suspend your contract - for whatever reason (make up joining peace corps, gang retaliation time, measles), they'll suspend the lines, hold your number and you don't have to pay 150 a month.. maybe like 5 bucks a month.

I forgot the name of the one prepaid company but they dont charge you per day.. its like vodaphone or something... stay away from boost and those that advertise on tv.. A lot of phone companies just buy minutes in bulk from the big companies.. so your not getting "specific lines" from AT&T or T-Mobile or any of that shit

Yep. They charged me an early cancellation fee. Sent me a phone that lasted all of 3 months or so before it died then wanted me to pay full price for a new one when it was defective. So I had no phone to use and got charged a cancellation fee which I refuse to pay. They wouldn't work with me at all and I paid every month on time for over a year. Pissed me off.
