Live within our means with emphasis on our kids' well being (health- baseball/softball/swimming, education- private school, social skills- other than disciplinary reasons they take part in almost all activities such as school dances, movies with friends etc.). I do not cut back on any of these elements.
We eat out quite a bit less, I am basically left with hand me downs from my wife with regards to automobiles, and gambling has basically been moved to a entertainment luxury instead of trying to make it work as a second income.
Pre planning/saving for college began years ago as my children are still in grade school/jr high. Vacations and get aways are more of the beach, mountain, desert type instead of hotels or resorts.
Luckily I am still fortunate enough to hit Vegas a few times a year and throw down some action, however, nowhere near what I used to. I think this is more the fact of simply having kids and not so much the economy as this has been in place for several years. I think most people with kids would agree that it is just normal. People with no kids kind of stand back and wonder how. I have three and wonder how some of these people with 5 or 6 do it but I'm sure it is just normal to them.
