OT: Should I buy a refurbished cell phone?

I am in need of a new cell phone as mine is old and the battery life full charged lasts about 15 minutes.

I was looking at the phones online at AT&T and noticed that they offer a lot of refurbished phones. I was thinking about picking up a Blackberry Curve for $49.00 instead of buying a brand new one for $200 (less $100 after mail in rebate). I just hate waiting 3-4 months for that mail in rebate to finally come in the mail.

Has anybody ever bought a refurb?

The last three phones I've bought were refurbished phones that I bought on eBay and I have zero complaints. I bought them on eBay--and paid more than at the AT&T store--so that I would not have to extend my service agreement. I've had two refurb Palm Treos and I now have a refurb Samsung BlackJack that I got about a month ago.

No problems.

Bought 2 different ones in my time. First one was perfect and second was garbage. Not gonna do it again.
