OT Outback Steakhouse Story..I was floored

my family loves Outback, especially my two kids 6 & 8. They absolutley love the mac n cheese and I love the 2 for 1 any drink happy hour. Anyways, we were talking with our waitress and she said make sure you look over our menu it is brand new with some new items. I laughingly told her as long as they still had the mac n cheese it does not matter. She said " well I have an interesting story for that". She told us that the mac n cheese is now served in a smaller salad bowl rather than the soup bowls because......ready??>>>>>

Outback's corporate office received too many letters from customers stating that Outback and the large bowls of mac n cheese were making their kids obese!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Both of our jaws hit the table. A restaurant that you may go to once every few months is making your child obese?? My kids always take home leftovers and have dinner for the next night and both are skinny as rails. WTF has America come to? If I was Outback I would have wrote a letter back to each of those people and explained obesity starts in the home not at Outback with a bowl of Mac N Cheese. If you came in for lunch and dinner each day and only had mac n cheese I could understand but that would be a completely different problem :lol:

My kids love Outback as well--only problem is they LOVE the steak--but I digress.
People are looking to blame ANYONE BUT THEMSELVES for problems. These same people who complained probably stopped for ice cream on the way home

Just to offer another perspective.

Do you think it is possible that is the message corporate sent out, but in reality it is a cost cutting measure.

I know it doesn't sound like a big deal (Vegetarian, so don't go to Outback and don't know), but is it possible that many kids order this and they view it as way to cut serving size portions without reflecting negatively on the company, but instead giving the appearance they care about their customers.

I thought the same thing. What Outback did was lower all prices and made portions smaller which is not a big deal. If you order a steak alone the prices went up a touch. They have added a ton of mixture entrees in which they can make smaller portions. They reduced the price by 25% on the mac n cheese which eliminates that thought for me.

America (and myself) need smaller portions!!! It is insane America's view on what a portion or serving is compared to the rest of the world. I am just as guilty of eating big but at least I can admit it.

Not really, because normally the portions are so damned large anyway that even if they cut it in half it's still probably too much.

Worst steak I ever had was at an Outback. No reason to give them another try if they are raising prices and lying about it.

Outback's "2 for 1" happy hour drinks sound great until you realize that they charge almost $7 per drink.

It could be that the waitress really didn't know the whole story or truth.

Sounds like a far-fetched story & unlikely THAT MANY people could complain about a bowl of macoroni & cheese to convince a company to make such a change...

well, look at it this way...what demo orders the mac and cheese? Kids...if that kid cant finish his mac and cheese, what are the odds they sell that same kid a dessert? If that kid doesnt finish the mac and cheese on his plate, mom and dad aint buying the same kid an over-priced bowl of ice cream either...they probably realized that the portion was too large for the demo that was buying it. If you consider a family of 4, if one kid doesnt get dessert, neither does the other kid....so they lose at least 2 dessert sales because they loaded up the mac and cheese...

2 for 1 everything..Outback and Carraba's have the same deal. Carrabas is such a better place but they don't have the goods the kids like..

Man as a teen working at an Outback, the absolute best stoned meal on earth was the Outback chicken tenders cut up and mixed in with a bowl of Mac n Cheese.

I'm sure the "2 for 1" drinks have half the alcohol as the normal drinks do + the cheapest booze you can find.

Not up the street where we go a few times a year. It's actually really good drinks in a decent bar setting with a lot of decent looking ladies hanging out. But it's not some "bargain" per the 2for1 smak

The food cost on mac n cheese at OutBack is so low it's completely irrelevant, canned cheese and noodles. it may be good mac n cheese to some; good for Outback. I feel that they are making a statement that they care, that's it; publicity.


FYI, I make the best mac n cheese (from scratch) u will ever lay your fat lips on, will make u cream in your pants. I hear Drew's is good too, real fucking mac n cheese.
