400 is way to high.
Check out the Hotel Pennsylvania right across the street from the Garden.

You'll get a shoebox or about 179 or so, but it's clean and uber safe, and smack dab in the middle of everything.

I would not stay at Hotel Penn unless you exhaust all options. I would suggest staying accross the river in Fort Lee or Weehakwen and get a great view of NYC for 1/2 the price of a hotel in the city. Try Hyatt or Hilton in Midtown for deals as well.

Stay in Secaucus for much less and it is a 10 minute busride into NYC to catch the subway. Have done it 3 times--works like a charm

That would be my suggestion. I stayed at a Red Roof Inn there pretty much next to Giants stadium. They have a bus 2 minutes down the road that takes you directly into the city. I think the hotel was only $80 or so a night too. If memory serves correctly.

Agree w/Glen. If you are going to go to the game, quick cab ride to the Stadium across the GW Bridge from Fort Lee (assuming no traffic, :missingte). The hotel will only be about 40% of the price you'd pay in NYC.

Are you going to the Thursday day game (I'll be there as well)? If so and you wanted to go out afterwards for dinner or drinking, you can take the subway down to Manhattan and do your thing. If it is one of the night games, head into Manhattan early, do whatever you want to do there, take the subway up to the Stadium, watch the Yanks beat the Sox, take a gypsy cab back to Fort Lee. Overall you will definitely save $$$.
