First...please pray for me. Lol Thanks. Secondly…any input would be helpful, cannot make up my mind on this one. Moving from Hawaii which is too insanely expensive & looking at either Texas or Washington with Texas being the front-runner since not a fan of rain. Kids ages are 8,6,2. Anybody living in Texas now with kids? Any great small towns/cities more kid friendly meaning safe/good school/etc? Thanks!

Stay away from DFW, Ebola outbreak in high gear there. Also, 3 strike law in effect, no exceptions, life for shoplifting

Lived in Houston for a while a number of years ago. Hot as hell, flat as a pancake, lots of traffic and pollution. Would have moved to NOLA if I'd known how bad Tx would be

You say Washington is your second choice? If you mean Wa (not DC) then I'd say go for that. Beautiful, clean country, great outdoor lifestyle

I lived two years in San Antonio and have been a million times - it's a little boring - but Dallas area or Austin would be real nice areas - Texas is kinda a big state - little bit of a difference between a hip area like Austin and say El Paso

good luck in whatever you do. I live in Hawaii as well so I can relate to the cost of living. The kids will not like it but they are young enough where they should be just fine.

I just got to Austin this am for a meeting tomorrow am and can tell you that the weather is great here this time of year...

As others have mentioned, Austin is a solid town...to be honest it is the only place in Texas I would consider moving to personally

High tech industry continues to grow down here....the companies complain about having to pay a lot to get folks to move here from Cali...but once they are here many do not want to leave....

Good luck with your decision/move...

We call it Wacko here. Why were you there? Wedding?

Wacko....lol, that's what people were saying when I was down there....haha

I was down there on business. It was about a dozen years ago. David Koresh(?) and his compound were still on people's minds

If you move to Austin, Houston, Dallas or suburbs of these you will like it. With Dallas you have the Cowboys you can start claiming as your team (who wouldn't want that?). Mavs, Stars, Rangers. You have 2 Casinos within an hour away and another in Shreveport about 3 hours. Lakes, good schools, Top universities, TCU, SMU, Baylor, UT, ATM, Tech lol. Anyway it can get hot, but it's nothing too crazy. Austin is awesome too which is about 2.5 hours from Dallas.

Yeah, I wanna say because of David Karesh they started calling it Waco. It's the mid point between Dallas and Austin. Only reason to stop there is for gas then be on your way.

Texas has everything.....I live about 5 hours South of Austin and we love it, but I have a "unique" situation. lol. I like San Antonio a lot too......have several friends up there. Been in Texas for 3 years and wouldn't want to live anywhere else......well maybe Nevada.

You're believing what the media tells you.

May through August in Washington is gorgeous. Barely any rain. If you live in Eastern Washington, you'll barely get rain period. I'm not moving back there but it doesn't rain all the time.

Spent a lot of time in Texas and I don't like it at all, it would probably be among my last choice of places to live in the US.

Houston is just awful
San Antonio is OK
Austin is pretty cool, that would be alright

All in all it's too big, too hot, the people drive like maniacs, not enough going on, too flat...no thanks

I would choose Washington in a heartbeat, pacific NW is beautiful

Why are these your two options?

I forgot to mention, if you really care about politics and you're conservative, Western Washington is not for you. It will drive you insane.

Moved to San Antonio back in late 2009, great place to raise a family. I live just north of the city on the edge of the hill country. As another poster stated, it is a little slower paced but has more of a friendly, small town feel. Austin is a decent place to visit for a day, but wouldn't want to live there, not to down with the hipster scene and those cockroaches are everywhere and the traffic is an absolute nightmare. SA is very hot, and the heat runs from late March to late October. And get ready to witness the nastiest, most aggressive driving that you will ever encounter. The freeways resemble Talladega, with as many as 15-20 oversized pickup trucks and SUVs lined up doing 90+, 3 feet off of each others bumpers. Road rage is a real problem, the big pickup trucks are driven by some very angry rednecks.
