The Florence County Planning Department served a stop-work order to the Beaver Lodge on Hazel Drive in Florence, according to planner Jay Graham, saying it was in violation of a county ordinance.
The Beaver Lodge, according to its website, operates under the Benevolent Order Of Beavers, which is a private adult entertainment membership club.
The website says its members can engage in legal sexual activities on site.
Graham says the Beaver Lodge is in violation of a county ordinance on sexually oriented businesses, because it's located within 1,000 feet of a church and residential community.
The business also didn't also obtain zoning and building permits as required by the ordinance, Graham said.
Some neighbors on Hazel Drive say they're elated the club has been shut down.
"Everyone is on board. This is not something we want in this neighborhood," said Karen McCall.
"I'm extremely happy," Britt King said, "And I'm sure everybody on the street and around here is happy."
Palmetto Commercial Real Estate leased the building to the lodge and released this statement to WPDE NewsChannnel 15.
"Both Palmetto Commercial Real Estate and the building's owner sincerely regret leasing 1611 Hazel Drive to the Benevolent Orders of Beavers. We were misled as to the intended use for the property. The President of the organization compared their club to an Elks-type club which is obviously a misleading comparison. Had we known their intended use, we would not have assisted in this lease. The lease agreement, however, clearly states that no use maybe conducted in the premises that is contrary to any municipal law or ordinance."
Robert Carr is the President of the Benevolent Order of Beavers.
He says he didn't think his business had to comply with zoning regulations.
"I was told because it was in an non-zone area, we would not have to worry about it, zoning regulations. But I guess, I was misinformed," said Carr.
Carr says he filled out the necessary paperwork Tuesday to reopen, this time as a social club instead of a sexually oriented one.
Carr says he even took down sexual content from his website to reflect the new status of the lodge.
"Our website inadvertently overstressed adult entertainment component of our organization. If it's going to be a problem, we'll just drop that aspect and maintain it as a social club. We will no longer hold ourselves out as an organization that our make up is geared toward sexual activity," Carr explained.
Carr says his group recently organized and so far has 10 members.

London: A swingers' hotel, which is set up for "liberated adults" in Blackpool, is blooming, as it allows couples to swap partners for a "naughty" weekend away.
The Paradise Hotel, which was set up by Sue and her husband Keith, can sleep 16 couples at a time and charges 120 pounds per couple per weekend.
Sue said that swinging has become so much more mainstream over the past few years and setting up the hotel has been great and they are fully booked nearly every week.
The Paradise, also known as the "Horny Hotel", has a wide range of clients from all backgrounds, including solicitors and police officers and has regular parties being held in the bar with an option of going to one of the "playrooms" if someone wants.

A CABARET artist faces jail after being convicted of raping a woman at a Sheffield club while dressed as Herman Munster.
Jeremy Frazer Newsome Smith, 45, carried out the sick attack on a 22-year-old woman in a room of mirrors at the “swingers’” sex club La Chambre in Sheffield, last Halloween.
He denied rape saying they had consensual sex, but was found guilty by a jury on Thursday.
Judge Peter Kelson QC warned Smith, from London, he faces a jail term and released him on bail to “get his affairs in order”.
Prosecutor Charlotte Baines told the jury during the trial at Sheffield Crown Court: “The allegation occurred in an establishment called La Chambre.
“That is a private members club that’s commonly called a swingers’ club. It is an establishment that opens its doors to members who go with a view to watching or participating in sexual activity if they chose to do so.”
“It’s clear that La Chambre makes no secret of the type of establishment that it is. It is a swingers’ club.
“There are rooms upstairs in the club referred to as the ‘playrooms’. Those rooms are for those individuals who want to engage in sexual activity and they engage with other consenting adults in various types of sexual activity - that’s activity that takes place between consenting adults.”
Smith’s victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, went to the fancy dress party with two female friends.
Miss Baines said she was a member of the club but never took part in any sexual activity and went there purely to socialise.
Smith had been asked to perform as a kinky cabaret act with two friends dressed as Lily Munster and Harry Potter, and were paid in drink.
During the night, Smith had invited the woman to partake in kinky games - which involved her being put into stocks and having her underwear pulled down.
She said the act was “really embarrassing” and later in the evening the defendant plied the woman and her two friends with drinks.
After the show Smith, who admitted taking Viagra before going to the club, and his friends drank and socialised with the victim and her friends.
He then said “let’s go upstairs and laugh at all the people having sex”, where he then raped the woman in an indoor smoking room “covered in mirrors”.
The victim told the jury she froze during the attack.
She said: “I just felt as though I was paralysed. I was just so scared, I knew what was going to happen. I was just so scared I didn’t event know what to do.”
Following the horrific assault, which the victim was forced to watch in the mirrored-walls, Smith kept her underwear saying he had to “to look after it for her”.
She told the court: “He started having sex with me. I could see everything that was happening. I tried to look away but the walls were covered in mirrors so I had to watch everything.”
The woman told police how she wanted her friends to come back and find her, which they later did.
The complainant told her friends what had happened before alerting staff and going to a nearby police station.
Smith denied the allegation of rape, saying the two had consensual sex and that she had “been flirting with him throughout the evening”.
Smith will be sentenced in September after the preparation of a probation report.

The reveller, aged 35, got into difficulties while in the pool with six others and was pulled out of the water and given first aid by the mansion’s owner but died at the scene.
Police and ambulance crews attended the scene at a luxury house in upmarket Radlett, Herts, but the man was declared dead at the in the early hours of March 28.

Friday nights are singles nights and couples’ nights are held on Saturdays.
Richard Stanley, 66, who runs the business which hosts the parties, along with his partner Janet Harrison, 58, said: “Everyone is very shocked including me.
“I heard somebody yell that there was someone lying at the bottom of our pool. There were about a dozen people there at the time and about six in the water. I dived in and pulled the man out.
“There was a nurse present too and we gave him first aid.

“We’ve never had a tragedy like this before. It was horrible to witness and I feel very sorry for the man’s family. The police said the death was not suspicious.”
Radlett Adult Parties featured in a Channel 4 series last year called Jon Richardson Grows Up, in which the comedian travelled the UK examining the modern aspects of becoming an adult.

The reveller, aged 35, got into difficulties while in the pool with six others and was pulled out of the water and given first aid by the mansion’s owner but died at the scene.
Police and ambulance crews attended the scene at a luxury house in upmarket Radlett, Herts, but the man was declared dead at the in the early hours of March 28.

Friday nights are singles nights and couples’ nights are held on Saturdays.
Richard Stanley, 66, who runs the business which hosts the parties, along with his partner Janet Harrison, 58, said: “Everyone is very shocked including me.
“I heard somebody yell that there was someone lying at the bottom of our pool. There were about a dozen people there at the time and about six in the water. I dived in and pulled the man out.
“There was a nurse present too and we gave him first aid.

“We’ve never had a tragedy like this before. It was horrible to witness and I feel very sorry for the man’s family. The police said the death was not suspicious.”

Hertfordshire Police confirmed an investigation into the man’s death is underway and a postmortem will be held this week.

“When we attended we found a man had died at the scene.
“An investigation is under way into the death and a postmortem will be held next week.”
As well as the swimming pool, the mansion venue has a sex chamber, a dance room with a pole and a sauna.
