Two good investments that can't go wrong for a kid in college or right out of high school.

1) A sharp looking suit (as Uncle Eddie would say "it's the gift that keeps on giving the whole year")

2) A good solid desktop or laptop.

1) Just bought a new suit about 3 months ago
2) Still a relatively new laptop

Thanks buddy!

you hiring any positions right now?? I prefer something that pays 50-75k, allows me to come and go as i please, and prefer to have no responsibilities whatsoever. I show up close to start time and leave early all the time. Sometimes I smell like booze in the morning.

That about 80% of the people I interview a year...You would fit right in.

Guru- Let us know how it went.

Email me. I shot you an email but I'm not sure if you changed your email address.

Ok, I may get banned for this and if so, so be it, but I need to get this off of my chest because you're the last person in the world I wanted to hear from on a day that went pretty poorly.

You're a fucking scumbag. You took advantage of a kid and know it. You turned me into the equivalent of a shit-faced tout and I will never forgive you for that. You owed me over $4000 and kept coming up with bullshit excuses as to why you couldn't pay it. I threatened to sue you and you promised you'd pay in installments. You made exactly ONE installment payment then came up with another excuse. I'm done with your shit. I don't want your money. You can keep your fucking website. Just go away and leave me alone. I changed my email in part because I know you had the other one and you're not getting the new one. Just get out of my life.

Really appreciate it Peter. Things didn't go so well today (I learned how little I really know about accounting) but I'm not down about it. There will be more chances in life.

I thought you said she was looking to teach someone accounting. Hang in there things work the way they do for a reason. If it was meant to be it will happen. GL

She did say that... but I think she was prepared for a real Jr. Accountant. I guess my father has only prepared me for how to do the accounting for his business, not really "accounting." I'll live. It's good to know that I work for my old man, and it's not like he's firing me. That'll always be there in life. The money just sucks and the hours are horribly inconsistent.

I've never had a real job you in my life and I don't know much about the accounting field - but I can assure you that you have no chance of getting this job if you don't show up in a suit with a tie - this is a professional industry.

AFLGuru, pretty cool you posted an update.

Dont give up, keep hammering away at Monster, ETC. A good paying job with benys is right around the corner who would love to have a young motivated go getter like yourself.

(I'd like to ultimately end up in hospitality somewhere despite having relatively useless degrees in music and history).

If that's what you really want and you are a personable "people" person maybe you should look at a diploma in hotel management or some similar "ticket".

BTW, ever thought about those 6 month contracts on cruise ships using your musical talent? That's a hospitality business.

I've thought about going back to school, and ultimately may end up there. I've also considered the cruise ship route, but I've been on enough cruises to know that they're no fun for the staff. I don't want to be away from the country for 6 months and the pay is lousy in proportion to the hours being worked. My GF and I have been dating for 7 years next month and we just got back in the same general area for the first time since I left for college 4 years ago. I can't tell her I'm leaving again for 6 months.

Hope the interview went well. GL.

Edit: I just noticed that the thread was created in the morning, so I guess it's already done. Haven't read the rest of the thread...but uh, hope it went well. I'm an idiot.

AFL,

Have been going through a lot of these lately. I am not going to go through the whole thread to see if these have all been said, but I'll just give you my tips-

1. Ask questions at the end about the job. Show that you care about the job and have researched the company. Ex; if there was a recent merger or acquistion, ask something about that.

2. Go in there telling yourself that they need you and not vise versa. Not cocky, just confident.

3. Have an answer prepared for your weaknesses. They are going to ask you, so have something prepared. Don't say you have none

SHOES

I cannot stress this enough. Shoes are somewhere between eyes and personality on a chicks check list. The only people that pay more attention to your shoes than potential employers is potential mates.
