I'm thinking of buying a new house and am pricing out the various options for the house upgrades. Anyone know what it costs to lay down concrete in an outdoor patio area? I'm not looking for a final estimate, obviously, but is there a rule of thumb on how much concrete costs per square foot?

I Just Spent $11,000 On Concrete............

Here In SC, Much Cheaper Cost Of Living, Concrete Is .90 a Square Yard, and The Finisher Charged .70 a Square Yard. Therefore $1.60 a Square Yard Is What I Paid, and Everyone I Talked To Said That Is The Average. I Had My 200 Foot Driveway Poured, A 60x40 Pad, and a Sidewalk....and It Cost Me A Few Cent Short Of $11,000.

I have a significantly smaller section than that. Its roughly 15x17, bare sand right now, nothing to remove. I sure HOPE its quite a bit less than 11-large

15X17= 255 sf

9sf to a yard

so only 28.33 yards.

I think your problem will be minimum orders to send out a truck, and workers, almost sounds like a DIY project with bags of cement mixed yourself, but I don't know much about concrete.

a concrete truck only carries about 10 cubic yards so your looking at 3 truck loads. You should have no problem with minimum orders with that much concrete. Especially with construction so slow right now.

with cubic yards, wouldn't that mean he would be pouring the cement 36" thick ?

I can't see needing 3 trucks to pour a patio.

also with the dimmentions you gave you only have like 3.15 cubic yards of concrete. 15' x 17' by 4" thick would give you the 3.15 cubic yards of concrete. With that little you still shouldn't have a huge problem getting it delivered in a truck. Hell even if you have to pay for 5 cubic yards it would be worth it. Think of the pain in the ass it would be to buy and mix 142 80# bags of concrete from home depot, because thats how many it would take.

Also don't know where you live but where I live in florida I believe concrete is close to $100 to $115 a cubic yard. So you'r looking at about $350 or so for the concrete. Of course you still have to pay someone to do the work.

ya that was my bad. I thought you posted that he needed 28.33 cubic yards. I didn't see that he posted the dimmentions earlier. I'm assuming that 4" thick would be o.k. for his patio.

Either way I don't think he would have a problem getting it there, because construction is so slow. Also what you can do is call the concrete factory like rinker and ask them to deliver any extra concrete they may have from other jobs.

I'm no concrete guy, but I agree a truck is the way to go, even if you need only a 1/3rd of a truck.

In LA there should be tons of Mexicans that do concrete, so I'd look at the CL link.

It's too much too mix yourself. I've never done anything large with concrete. The tools you'd need to DIY would be prohibitive, plus experience would be needed.

where I live most companies have a 3 cubic yard minimum order. So you should be O.K. but even if there minimum order is higher you can usually just pay an extra $75 or $100 delivery charge to get less than the minimum order. Either way at most your concrete cost should be under $500 assuming prices are about the same as where I live.

This sounds wrong mathematically. If you paid a total of $1.60 a square yard ( 9 sf), and paid 11k, then I get 61,875 sf.

Something is wrong.

One acre comprises 4,840 square yards or 43,560 square feet[1

I'd guess you could do this for maybe 2-3k total.

You'll need to set forms, maybe your "sand" is OK for underlayment, may need more, then re-bar, then pay the Mexicans ( who may or may not be licensed contractors), then they have to come back to get their forms later.

My guess is minimum 2k, using unlicensed contractor.

Some brick or something might be a lot cheaper.

I missed the part about being new, and an upgrade, this should significantly reduce the charges, as everything will already be there ( the Mexicans, the material, the concrete trucks, etc.

BIG DIFFERENCE in price doing it now, way easier !

I think 2k should easily do it now.

I believe you paid 11k, but not $1.60 a square yard, that's more like the cost of indoor/outdoor carpet.
