Sherman: You could do it Seinfeld style. Mail it to a buddy ( insured), have buddy claim PO broke it. If you get caught it's only a minor felony.

lead me not into temptation....

Sherman: What brand is it? ebay has a few. You can probably do it yourself with the manual. I know Dell comes with a handy manual.

I had the same problem, I first called Dell to see what it would cost to repair and they wanted $350 for screen, $500 for labor, and $100 Shipping + Insurance, for a total of $950 to repair a laptop i purchased for $2200, 4 years earlier. I asked them about simply shipping me the screen and i would install it, $350 you would figure, nope they wanted $600 for the screen that they would send me, what a ripoff. So this was my solution.

1.) I took apart my laptop to remove the screen, about 20 minutes worth of work, just removing screws carefully, write down specifics if you cant remember
where they go.

2.) get the part number off the back

3.) googled it

4.) searched a few wholesale computer parts stores and found a replacement

take it apart yourself, google the part number, compare prices at wholesale distributors who break up old unsold models for parts, reinstall it yourself

i had the same experience and that was my method, Dell wanted $350 for screen, $500 for labor, and $100 for shipping and insurance.

I got the screen for less than $375, took me less than an hour to unistall the old and reinstall the new. And to think Dell charges $500 for what amounts to taking out the battery, taking out 15 screws, plugging in a connection, and reversing it. I cant remember the parts store i got it at but am looking and will post it when i find it

I didnt know my first post went through, accidentially hit back space, retyped this only to find out it did
