Orioles outfielder Adam Jones: Players should be able to kick fans that run on field

The Orioles had some fun at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, steamrolling the Bombers 14-5. If it were up to Baltimore outfielder Adam Jones, two Yankees fans would have also gotten walloped.

With the O’s up 10 in the bottom of the eighth, the game was delayed when two fans ran out onto the field. Jones was visibly displeased, and was seen shouting at the “idiotic” fans.

If it was up to Jones, fans that ran out onto the field would get a lot more than just an arrest, a fine and a ban from ballparks.
Said Jones: “They should let us have a shot to kick them with our metal spikes on. … You look like a jackass when you’re on the field.”

Security corralled the fans. Most parks, including Yankee Stadium, now have jails inside the stadium. Security regulations vary by ballpark, but almost all incidents tend to lead to a trespassing charge for the fans who run onto the field.

Again, Jones thinks they should go a little further.

“I remember a couple years ago one guy broke his ankle in Baltimore. I was laughing at him. I wish he shattered his femur because it’s just stupid. Just point blank stupid. Anyone that does it I wish the cops would Tase the living **** out of them,” he said.

Here are Jones’ full comments:

Clearly Jones is a fan of what went down in Philadelphia in 2010:

I dont know about kicking, but players should be allowed to tackle idiots that run on the field. Theres an old video of a Baltimore Colts LB that takes out a fan that runs on the field, its awesome.

Although I don't agree with these drunken fools doing that, I have to ask the following question-

This pampered ball player wants to be able to legally assault a ticket older for trespassing? If a person runs out onto a field and disrupts this rich, pampered blowhard, he wants to be able to assault them with a dangerous weapon....

So buying a ticket allows you to do whatever you want?
Is that an insinuation Nick? If so then you didn't read my very first sentence.

I was just trying to rationalize the jump from simple trespassing (with probably no ill intent), to assault with a dangerous weapon.

If that's the incident I'm thinking of, then you're right, it's a funny video.

Im not insinuating anything, just asking what you believe purchasing a ticket allows people to do.

I dont have a problem with the person on the foul line that falls over the fence trying to get a foul ball, but once a drunk decides to run on the field, whatever happens to him should be legal.

Player has a right to be mad, he make some solid points - a little extreme on his part but the fan shouldn't be jumping on the field.

Remember when the father and son duo beat up the Royals 1st base coach?

I'm surprised events similar to that do not happen more often. You see a lot of idiots at sporting events.

The only thing I remember was Monica Seles getting stabbed while playing. Was the father son thing MLB or minors?

I had an attempted robbery a few years ago and asked the judge at the hearing if I had run over this guy when he was fleeing what would happen? He said, " I'd be standing in front of him in cuffs"!

As Jones should be as well? He'll probably be in CF oh well.........

Maybe if it happened in the NFL...but just imagine the outcry if someone like Jones would go after someone and tear his ACL doing so...crazier things have happened, just saying. Let security deal with it, any way they want, but the players should stay out of it.

I think that purchasing a ticket allows a person to sit or stand at their seat. It also allows them to cheer or boo.

What does being a paid baseball player allow you to do? Does it allow the professional athlete to assault somebody with a dangerous weapon or perhaps let security deal with it?

All sports should take the soccer approach. Beat the hell out of anyone who comes on the field.
