OK this one probably will freak out a few people. I have to agree that Boise St. is a VERY formidable offensive team. Now with that said, let me tell you why I like the Beavers in this spot.
There are a few things I see happening with this team that I am not all too surprised to see. First of all, their defense seems to be VASTLY improved and their offensive line so far ranks with the best vs the best. Riley has this team VERY well coached. I am impressed with what he has done so far. They held LSU scoreless for 38 minutes last week and that says something. LSU even seemed demoralized at that point.
It's not really a question of who has the better offense, LSU or Boise, they are different. What most impressed me was how the Beavers totally controlled the line of scrimmage on both O & D that got me thinking about this game here. Or. St. is HUGE on the line. That's their advantage. Their corners and DE's kept up as long as they could lst week until the heat got to them. Then it finally got a little sloppy.
Another angle here is the way they lost last week. You just don't get much closer in a tight game than they did and not come away with a win. I think this will work to their advantage this week in the motivation department. Everyone seems to be consoling their kicker and that means good team cohesion and positive spirit. That's just a bit of practice field info I happen to know about.
I think they will control the line of scrimmage once again and perhaps get good play from their secondary too. That's the key to this game. I don't think this game will be played at Boise St.'s pace, rather it will be the Beavers and I know this sounds a bit strange, but a lower scoring game would be to the Beaver's advantage. But if the total goes over 60 or under it, I think this one could easily go down to the wire.
I also think Derek Anderson may really have found his game. (Winone, he owes you this season.
) He was much sharper than he has been, albiet so is his OL. But if he took 10% off his passes I think he could do better. He was either overthrowing or right on target. If he is to prove his abilities, he will relax more as the season progresses.
I don't think Boise St. has the answer to Oregon State's offense, but the Beavers will slow down Boise. How slow? Hard to say but that to me means another game played down to the wire for the Beavs and the 7.5 points is lookin good. I'm going to let it ride on the Beavers another week.
