Once again, the stupidity of College Football Players reared it's ugly head as Oregon WR Darren Carrington was suspended by the NCAA for the NC Game. He flunked a drug test (weed). Oregon will also be without WR Devon Allen, who injured his knee is the Rose Bowl Game and has been ruled out of the NC game.

These are big losses to the Oregon offense as Mariota's targets are now severely limited. Carrington caught 7 passes for 165 yards and two TD's against Florida State. Allen, who did not get to see much action in the Rose Bowl caught 41 passes for 684 yards and 7 TD,s during the regular season for Oregon.

One now must question the amount of control Helfrich has over his team. If a very important reeiver does something totally stupid like smoke some weed a week before the biggest game of the season, the entire Oregon Coaching Staff has to be in question. I see a potential lack of control here. Combine that with other things, such as the gimmick uni's Oregon chose to wear, and your wagering options are now down to three for this game. You can take Ohio State plus the points, Ohio State and the ML, or just passon the game. While Oregon still has the weapons to win this game, it is no secret that attitudes like this often preceed Oregon losses. Apparently Ohio State and Urban Meyer mean business. Oregon???

Just because an idiot smoked pot within the last 30 days doesn't mean the coach has lost control of the team

Might be the dumbest thing I have seen you write and that's not a easy call.

I really wish the NCAA/NFL/NBA etc wouldn't test for this. I'm not sure what competitive advantage it provides a player. I'm sure at some point universities in Colorado, Oregon, and Washington will speak with the NCAA because it is legal in those states. My wife, being the lawyer that she is brought up an interesting point. CFP, just like the Final Four is not run by the NCAA. So why would the NCAA be testing players and ruling on players eligibility related to said championship games. So even if the test was administered during the regular season, he'd be suspended for a regular season game. interesting thought

People in Washington & Colorado can still be fired or denied a job for positive pot test, I'm sure will be the same in Oregon when it becomes legal July 1st.

Good to know. Thought it was already voted in as legal.

Just because it is legal for some hipster to wake and bake doesn't mean that they can't lose their gig as head barista at the local Starbucks. States need money, plain and simple. They are not doing anyone favors.

Completely understand. My only point is I don't think kids or adults smoking a joint will give them a competitive advantage in this game. Dont see it. Understand that it's a rule and it was a DUMB decision made by a 18yr kid. Not like he raped anyone or is charged of sexual assualt/battery.

Not only is it a rule it's a federal law so how can any league or NCAA give players a pass when it comes to doing something illegal. Feds could come in and shut down pot in all 3 states if they wanted to. Federal laws trump state laws.

It's funny how he failed to mention his beloved Trojans, where was Pete Carroll and his coaching staff when Reggie Bush did all that damage to the USC program.

Let's just hope they get rid of this fucking rule starting next year. Smoking a little herb should not preclude you from playing football. As long as the kid has his grades in order and stays out of trouble who cares if he takes a a little toke and walks out in the air.
