about 12yrs ago during the college basketball season i was all set to make a play against north carolina taking the 8 1/2pts that was listed in my PAPER when i got a call from my friend who asked me to call a bet in for him ON n.c so i told him i would and of course i just booked his bet but didnt tell him,he came over to watch the game it goes into o.t. and n.c. wins by 8 he's pissed throws down the $220 for me to pay the book so he thinks and leaves just then i get a call from my uncle and he's screaming what a great cover it was by n.c. seems the bookie had it at 7 1/2. about three years later i told my friend the story thinking e would laugh FVCK NO!!! he still has'nt forgiven me to this day claiming i owe him $420. now i asked peoples opinions on this before and their always on his side but none of them are gamblers. so i thought you guys would know who is right. REMEMBER THE SPREAD IN THE PAPER WAS 8 1/2 AND HE WAS FINE WITH THAT, I HAD NO REASON TO CALL THE BOOKIE IMO.
Teddy, I think you're in the right here. I assume you would have paid him if NC would have covered the 8.5. Your friend made no limits as to the line he would take, and was ok with the 8.5 he thought he had. You had no idea while the game was going the line was 7.5, you found that out after the game was over. I look at it as a bet at 8.5, which you took yourself. Sorry if others disagree, but it is gambling and it is money. I wouldn't have spilled the beans to him though.

One question...If just after he left your uncle called you and told you about the 7½ line...
How come you din't called your friend right away... or the next day?... or the next week?... or within the month... or when the season ended!
Unless you COMPLETELY lost contact with your friend, I just don't get it...
I think he has all the right to be pissed, if you happen to casually mention the thing 3 years later!!
I think the honorable thing to do is to give him the $420 (I'm guessing you DID collect the win), or AT LEAST the $220 back.... plus 3 year interest!!

I have booked friends bets many times when we differ on sides, but i will always use the same lines that i can get. If with a local, then i will always offer the same line as the local has up or the line i see on the net, whatever i have available at the time of the call or request. As the newspaper is not a bookie, i would have to agree that his monies should be returned(220). Had the call been made to the bookmaker & 7½ gotten, all would have been good. As a friend, one owes courtesy of supplying the most correct line.
Betting principles thrown out here. Just a scenerio of friendship from my view on this matter.
I have as well had friends book my bets and give me a number that benefits them and could have gotten me a better number and i have lost on a ½ point too. I didnt like it, but accepted it. I never got to mad though, just an inside hurt that a friend could do this.

I book my friends bets sometimes and if this happened and I told my friend 5 minutes, afterword I think they would laugh let alone 3 years.
I just don't know how good a friend this guy is to you... If the bet was at 8.5 I don't think there is anything to be pissed about...

I made my wager and the game landed on SF by 3. After the game, i talked to another friend who informed me that the book had this game on 3 all day. The bookmakers Son, my friend, gave me the ol' hook. I never made a bet with him again, but our friendship was fine. We, the books Son & me, never discussed it. If he came to me today and admitted to me he hooked me, I would not feel any different.

Tedy, Tedy, Tedy, Its not like you changed the line midgame on this guy....The odds were known when the bet was made and he was ok with it so you shouldnt have to worry about giving the money back...My only question to you is why would you even tell him after 3 years?? If you ever were gonna tell him it should have been right after your Uncle called you...Forget about it, you booked the bet, he lost with the line you gave, end of story!!!!
