Japanese hits do not equal MLB hits. The best Japanese players come here to play in the better US major leagues while our washed up sluggers ( Manny Ramirez sorts) can go there or Taiwan and play a bit more.....if the NYY wont sign them.

then how come he is at about 3998 now instead of 4300+ ? He wont even tie Rose by the end of 2014.

He's a big longshot to reach 3,000 in MLB with 2719 now, maybe 2750 at the end of 2013. He realistically gets no more than 150 next year ( more like 125)....then his contract is up, and he needs another year+ somewhere else where he is not a platoon player, he will be hard pressed to find that....and I think it would beneath his dignity to play at a low level.

I think he is still a decent player, well above average on defense and baserunning, but too much of a singles hitter for a corner outfielder....about what you'd expect from him at 39 or whatever and a sort of a bargain at 5-6 million.

not sure what the games comparison is or how it trends vs. pete but i think the japanese baseball season is 20+ games less than MLB?

it is shorter but you still can't just add them together.

In his prime he was perhaps the best pure base hitter I've ever seen. Boggs and Gwynn were both great. Cabrera and Pujols are/were unreal. Ichiro did it all except hit for power.
