HOME TEAM IN CAPS
Northern Iowa +4 over EVANSVILLE
Rarely will I play a team that I don’t think has a chance of winning outright and that’s certainly the case here. The Purple Aces got off to a pretty decent start and they’re also undefeated at home with a 10-0 record but so what. Records can be misleading, especially non-conference records and Evansville has beaten a bunch of cupcakes. Actually, they might be a cupcake too. To beat the Aces you contain Shy Ely and these Panthers are more then capable of doing that. After Ely, the scoring drops significantly even though Jason Holsinger is averaging just over 13 a game. Holsinger can go very cold and against the tough defense of the Panthers he’s going to find the going much more difficult. The Purple Aces are just 3-2 in the conference, beating Drake and the bottom two teams in the conference while losing to SIU and Illinois State. Meanwhile, the Panthers are just getting better. This is a team that knows how and when to step it up. After losing by a single point in its conference opener, the Panthers have reeled off four in a row. All five starters average double-digits in scoring and that gives them a lot more options then the host. You are who you are and the Purple Aces are used to being in the basement or damn near it. Don't be fooled by the Purple Aces record. This is a very poor shooting team and they'll face a relentless defense in this one. Play: Northern Iowa +4 (Risking 2.10 units to win 2).
