HOME TEAM IN CAPS
Minnesota +1.21 over IOWA
I’m usually not in favor of playing ranked vs unranked, especially on the road, but this one is a little different. For one, the Gophers aren’t laying anything and in fact, they’re taking back a small price. Secondly, the Hawkeyes are unimpressive at best and they don’t have a single notable win on their résumé this season. Hell, they were tooth and nails to beat Indiana on their home court on Saturday. In fact, the Hawkeyes already have four losses including a 19-point loss to West Virginia on a neutral floor, a two-point loss at Boston College and a 17-point loss at Drake. Sure, they played a decent game in a three-point loss at Ohio St but these Gophers recently beat OSU by nine points. The Gophers also have a win over Louisville and to a lesser extent, Virginia. The Gophers have played three ranked opponents and they won two of them while the Hawkeyes have played one ranked opponent and lost. The Hawkeyes are another one of those teams that is offensively challenged and that usually leads to several scoring droughts during the course of a game. The Golden Gophers are more balanced, they’re averaging seven blocked shots a game to the Hawkeyes two and they should also win the battle of the boards here. Hawkeyes are favored because they’re 9-0 at home. All I can say to that is big deal, as they haven’t beaten anyone. Let’s not forget that the Hawkeyes went just 13-19 last season and lost twice as many Big Ten games as they won (6-12). This year’s edition does not return one double-digit scorer from a year ago and I’m not even convinced that this edition of the Hawkeyes is better then last year’s squad. Play: Minnesota +1.21 (Risking 2 units).
