I remember getting a call like this about a year ago but it was for a Wisconsin Firefighters Association. I told them I would send them $100 and they hung up.

I think some group like this got busted in Wisconsin a while back. I could imagine how many of these scams started after 911.

not all of them are scams...some of these organizations out source their small donor calls....

however, the caller ID should still be coming up local, you can program it to be what you want

so most likely, it's just a shitty organization

One summer in college I did telemarketing for a company that was legit. It solicited donations for the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police and a Fire Fighters Benevolent. Of course the company skimmed a profit, but we would willingly tell the people that if they asked. And the $$ went to the actual organization.

Had one this week for Police Benevolent fund, who was of limited intelligence. I had to explain to him 3 or 4 times that I do not respond to solicitations at the door or on the phone. He kept saying they would mail something. My mail still arrives at my door.

There's so many of these solicitations I just gave up and support only organizations of my choice.

I used to work for the Police Benevolent Association when I was about 18. What a crappy job that was. They bring in a lot of money especially from people that have a family member thats a cop. Man the stuff people used to say to me. You get to hear all types of people and stories when cold calling all day.............

Over the past year, I have told this company at least 3 times to remove my name from the calling list. Each time they say ok or all right and the call continue.

Question: Are they allowed to call under the "DO NOT CALL" Registry (US List)?
My number is listed on that.

Thanks.

I believe "nonprofit" organizations are still allowed to call.

Depends on the telemarketer that calls you. He actually has to do a little work to get you off the list and a lot of times its just easier to say "OK" and move on to the next client since most work off commissions etc.......

I can guarantee they will REMAIN NON_PROFIT if they continue calling me.

So even if I ask to be removed and inform them that I am going to tape this conversation, they are allowed to continue to call??

Yeah, they are....and they call the shit out of me. Every damn 3-4 weeks is a bit much, and worse yet, they give you this bullshit about how they can't take you off the call list & you have to call another #.

The one that pisses me off the most is some local cop foundation acting like they need the $$$ in order to be able to buy bulletproof vests & other equipment for the cops.

Bullshit-that's what I pay f'ing taxes for.

There must be some way to stop these calls. What about "harrassment"? Does anyone know an attorney that could give us the legal defination of harrassment?
I mean telling them to stop calling 3 times should be ENOUGH.

Whos on First. I received the same phone calls you are getting a few years back. They would call all the time saying they are from the Police Benevolent Assoc. When i tried to call the number back it went to a recording..The calls kept coming for 2 years even tho i would tell them to F off every time.. They would call after 9 pm and on Sundays which I believe is against the law.. They finally stopped when I changed my number(for other reasons).. If I were you I would contact the phone company and maybe check out the FCC website..

Probably that is the best way . But dealing with the phone company will be another pain as they'll probably want to tap my line and then all my personal calls will be taped!
I have the phone numbers they called from, the dates and times of calls written down. All numbers are different, the message is the same..so I think it's a scam.

welcome to my world.

400 calls a day , six days a week.

Good money, but you need thick skin, good rhetoric and lots of patience.

I do the same thing for sportsbooks Del Sol and I get the best of them daily. I do pretty good at calming them down when they start getting aggressive and I never contact a person that asks not to be called again, but I wouldn't change this job for anything in the world because it is very rewarding. The money is good and the people make it better especially when you pull in a $100K deposit. Keeps you high for days!!!!!!:thumbsup2:
