Chipsy,

I think you're the last one that should be talking about books failing because of "local" help.

You know what I'm talking about also !

It has nothing to do with Tico's so you guys can calm down, its about finding help that is cheaper but yet not as qualified, I have seen this time and time again, if its a dumb Gringo behind the desk because he is the owners son(Which I have seen) so be it. My point is about cutting corners in the wrong places, if I offended some people so be it!

I don't know what time line you're looking at. Some books have been offshore since the eighties. Remember it all started as credit.

Let's not push it here.

I have about 4000 posts or so, and if only now we finally agree on something, maybe we should leave it at that.

Chips-

One of my best friends was bookmaking in the DR in August of 1988, and they were not alone there. His -exboss is still in the business, as is the other office. I do not really care if yo are new or old, but get your facts straight- there are plenty of people that have been doing this off-shore for 12+ years.

Was Gringo in CR one of them??? Because me being offshore since only 1997 makes me a "newbie". Mr. Cole, while I certainly wont disagree that there may have been 1 or 2 in the late 80's, plenty of people doing it for 12+ years is an absolute lie! Can anyone name a book offshore in 1988?? The 1st true offshore book is more like 1994 with post up customers and advertising in magazines and on score phones, with the true explosion being around Football season of 1996. Hey Joey and Wild Card, I didnt issue any challenge here, just responded to one!

Chips, claiming that being in the offshore industry since 1997 is a long time does make you a newbie.

The 1st true offshore books (what is the definition of offshore?) did not open in 1994. An offshore book is one based outside of the US. The first ones were started in the 80's.

1996 was a huge growth year of the offshore industry. It also was the start of a lot of scam operations that thought it was a no brains get rich quick scheme.

Everyone was jumping on the wagon in 1996 - 1997.

Like Mr. Colburne stated, get your facts straight.

Still waiting for the names of the books that were offshore in the 80's, but I have a feeling I wont find any names, anyone who was offshore pre-1994 probably did not have a name, just like my office on Fordham Road in the Bronx didnt have a name either, Offshore Sportsbooks were started around 1994 with advertising and post up customers. Ohh and I guess writing tickets in the Bronx just wasnt quiet the same as Writing tickets in the DR, now throw in post up customers and dealing, with bookmaking software, western union, credit cards, bank wires, customer service and marketing departments, yeah I would call that very different that writing hand tickets in New York, but wait all that started about 1994.

Hey Chips,

Offshore means exactly that. It means the book is OUTSIDE THE US. Offshore.

Western union, post up, software, how does that have anything to do with where the book is located?

You were writing business in NY.

People that were writing business outside of the US were OFFSHORE. That started in the 80's. If you want to argue with that fact it just shows you are ignorant of the facts.

Off the top of my head I can think of 4 books that were in the DR before 1990.

Mickey Wheels is only one of them. The only guy on the island with a new white caddy.
