NW -11. Orange lost their best offensive player Williams WR, away, on grass, etc. NW has all their firepower back, Bacher, Sutton, Peterman. NW not exactly my fav. tm to play in a chalk role, but may play em here. Any thoughts?

I was looking at the same, but the public is all over NW and the line is dropping.

I will steer clear just so if they dont cover, i wont feel like a sucker.

The one thing that we're not sure about here is Greg Robinson is going to a new offensive system at Cuse. So NW may not be quite sure what to prepare for in this first game. As bad a coach as Robinson is, with the amount of starters he has coming back, it still wouldn't surprise me if Cuse improves a little this season. And if their point production goes up, with the line at double digits against a NW team who isn't a traditional power, we could easily see a backdoor cover here. I'm not crazy about lower end BCS conference teams giving other BCS conference teams double digit points early in the year. Last time NW did that, they lost straight up at home to Duke last season as 16 point favorites.

New system, still bad players and head coach. Northwestern is a play for me as well, Silver . . .

I think you have two teams going in opposite directions, the Cuse being the team that keeps getting worse. NW brings back a lot at the skill positions and the D will improve this year as well. The thing I like the most is NW has a QB that can run for 1st downs all day against a D like the Cuse has. Not to mention Bacher can throw for over 400yds too. Add in the fact that this is a home opener for NW, BIG Ten has a lot to prove and Cuse lost their best player at WR. I haven't taken this game yet but don't see any reason not to. The public will scare me away from certain games but this is def. not one of them.

NW is going to be better this year. And in fact will probably end up going to a bowl. But I'll have to see a marked improvement on defense before I can take them as double digit favorites. They didn't give up less than 20 points in any game last season against BCS teams.

I haven't missed many Syracuse home games in the past few decades, but it is sad to see what has happened to this program. We have almost no talent anywhere on the field, no depth, and what seems to be no direction. Wide receiver was the only position where I felt we were strong, but losing Mike Williams to academics and Taj Smith early to the draft even WR is short in depth with 2 local boys, Williams, and Lobdell having any talent what so ever. Robinson is an average at best quarterback who can only give you so much. It doesn't help the offensive line will continue to get abused. They lack size, athleticism, and depth. There is no way our defense will be able to hang with the high power NW offense. Syracuse just doesn't have the athletes, or size on the defensive line anymore.
It's sad seeing these players around town. They don't even look like D1 football players. These are just the scraps that Rutgers, BC, Penn St, and even UCONN didn't want.
With that being said I do feel Syracuse will put anywhere from 10-20 points on the board, but will be no where near enough as I can see NW hanging 35+ on this defense. My heart will be with the Cuse, but my money on the Wildcats. GL

GS Your Words Of Caution RE, NW History In This

position is the only thing that has tempered my enthusiasm for this one. That and the line movement. But as HomeD & BS said NW has as much offensive punch returning as just about anyone in the B10. We also must remember the change in playing surface from A to G is a big one, also out of the friendly confines of the Dome. Also you have to look @ the "Dunce factor", when Robinson is coaching. If the weather is decent I can see the Cats putting up 35 or so. Not a "RB game" (see Coach) but a play I'm willing to make. BOL luck to all boys, you don't know how much I'm looking forwrd to the coming 5 mos.! I can see Sutton running wild on this anemic Cuse D.

I like Northwestern by a few tds here. The public does fairly well at the beginning of the season. It's all downhill from there though. Syracuse is garbage though, and Northwestern has some really talented skill players on offense.

Northwestern 45
Syracuse 24

You old "dog" player you! Yeah NW IS in an unfamiliar role as chalk. Sort of gave me pause too, but the situational & stat factors weigh so heavily in their favor IMO I had to make a med. $$ play. BOL on your plays Buddy. Not normaly a totals player, but really like the Ky/Lvl gm under!
