:think2:I'd like to preface this story by simply giving you my public service announcement about betting on golf; don't do it. It's stupid. You won't win money in the end, especially these days when picking major winners is as easy as having a cell phone battery that lasts longer than eight hours.

But say you did bet on Adam Scott before the week started. I bet you were fired up on Sunday when the Aussie had a four shot lead with four holes to play. I bet you were downright giddy. Scott was 40-to-1 before the British Open kicked off, meaning if you tossed a cool $100 on Adam, you would walk away with $4000 if he could have just made a couple of pars over his final four holes. You probably bought yourself a rather expensive cocktail. You might even have sent some gloating texts to friends that dangit, you picked the Open winner before the week won, and your bank account is about to get jacked.
So you're watching, and Scott makes a bogey. And another. And another. And then he hits it in that bunker on the last, and the putt slides by, and Ernie Els is your Open champion and your left sipping that expensive cocktail that now counts against your rent money instead of your earnings money, and well, shoot.
You had to be mortified. Appalled. Choleric. The guy just lost you three month's rent! Well, if you bet at SportsBettingOnline, you don't have to worry about it, because the sports book is refunding the money for anyone that tossed some coin at Scott.

SportsBettingOnline today announced that management is refunding all players who lost money betting on Adam Scott.

"With so many of the favorites including Woods not cashing, it was a good day for sportsbooks. But that wasn't the case for those who dropped money on Scott,” stated Dave Johnson, head oddsmaker for SportsBettingOnline.ag. “We feel it's our duty to refund the players for taking such a bad beat. His collapse was historic and we know the bettors who had him must feel as awful as he does.”

Yep, that's right, a sports book is actually paying you back if you lost money on the guy that would lose the golf tournament in epic fashion.

Seriously, is this the first time anyone has ever done this? It would be like having 20 at a Blackjack table, the dealer turning over a five-card 21, and then allowing you to keep your chips because the cocktail waitress hadn't brought you that Bud Light quick enough.

Is this going to start being a trend? A guy epically collapses and the sports book, trying to keep their customers happy, just says "to hell with it" and allows people to keep their dough?

I guess this shows that the sports books must have had a great week with the Open Championship. Favorites Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood didn't win, and for every dope that tossed a tenner on Ernie Els, there were thousands that put $100 on Tiger or Dustin Johnson.

I would say its very safe to guess that they had about 3 bets of $10 each on the guy......

I bet there was less then 500 bet total on Scott. That's very cheap pub if you ask me.
I bet they get much more in deposits then that because of this marketing ploy

Paddypower (Irish bookie) does stuff like this from time to time:
F.e. they refunded bets on Pacman after his bogus loss & refunded bets on Wales to beat France (rugby) after the Welsh captain was sent off because of a controversial decision
