It's all Viking. I don't like or dislike Iowa. I pull for them out of conference, and in a big way during the NCAA tournament. Viking just hates Illinois. He had the gun loaded and ready to blow off his head, if Luther Head would have hit one of those late threes in the title game.Horseshoe said:
I had a gun to mine when Glen Rice and Co finally clipped Kendall Gill and The Flying Illini..I believe Lou-Doo's squad that year to be the best team of my lifetime to not have won the title..even better than the Rebels that were hosed by the NCAA and Refs for Duke with a 21-2 or something like +19 FT Attempts edge not but a few years later.
That team was special. The '88-'89 Flying Illini. I was in 7th grade, and cried myself to sleep. I vividly remember going to the Georgia Tech game, when Kendall Gill broke his foot, but the Illini won in triple overtime to overtake the #1 ranking. And I remember Nick Anderson hitting a 27 footer at the buzzer to win at Indiana. And I remember Nick Anderson not blocking out Sean Higgins. And I remember hurting very badly. That team was so good. Beat Michigan by 20 twice, but couldn't win when it counted. But that team will be remembered forever by Illini fans, even over last years team, which they would have beaten by double digits.Horseshoe said:
