First with rookie of the year.........Flacco didn't get one vote.......which is sad........and where is the rookie of the year? He will be watching the playoffs from his sofa.
Second is Coach of the year.......Mike Smith.......which I guess I don't have to big of a deal but come on what about John Harbaugh??? Not even a mention
Ed Reed should of gotten MVP of the league
:howdy:Hello jpr24628...
Please don't take this the wrong way my friend, however, with that being said we
ALL have our favorite teams and obviously yours is the Ravens...
...I am from the Pittsburgh Pa area and thusly my favorite team happens to be the Steelers who I have followed since the late Sixties when I was a kid growing up.
This is a handicapping board whose primary goal is to win money via gambling on sports, with that being said my advise to you is to stay completely away from betting on or off your home team until you can objectively look at your home team and handicap them in a completely unbiased light or you are going to lose alot of money.
Joe Flacco has done a nice job in Baltimore but there is no way in hell that he deserved the Rookie of the Year award over Atlanta's Matt Ryan, both QB's tossed the rock almost the same number of times but Ryan completed more passes for more yards with a higher completion rate and had a better TD to INT ratio:
_____________________________________________________________
***Ryan completed 265 of 434 passes for 3440 yards which is a completion rate of 61.06% with 12.98 yds per completion and a TD to INT ratio of 16-12.
***Flacco completed 257 of 428 passes for 2971 yards which is a completion rate of 60.05% with 11.56 yds per completion and a TD to INT ratio of 14-12.

With regard to Mike Smith winning the Coach of the Year award over Baltimore's John Harbaugh, come on now...Harbaugh took over a team that finished poorly (6-10) the year before due to injuries, with the defense healthy once again and going into this year alot of so-called experts thought the Ravens would win the AFC North and be in the playoffs...and here they are, thusly no surprise.
Atlanta on the other hand fired head coach Jim Mora Jr after he posted a mark of 7-9 in 2006 and had to deal with the two HUGE blackeyes they got with the Michael Vick saga, the Falcons brought in Bobby Petrino to replace Mora but Petrino left Atlanta high and dry after only coaching for 13 weeks when he fled back to the college ranks to coach at Arkansas...
...the end result was that Atlanta posted a record of 4-12 in 2007, had a divided locker room, and were facing lots and lots of empty seats in the stands.
In steps Mike Smith who in ONE YEAR turns the franchaise completely around in going from 4-12 in 2007 to 11-5 in 2008, in doing so Smith changed the culture of the city and put butts in seats once again.
We can argue that Smith couldn't have completed this turn around without the services of Matt Ryan but let's not forget WHO drafted Ryan in the first place (Smith) and how caught alot of flak from that selection (Smith), let's not forget that it was Smith who jettisoned the bad apples from the locker room and instilled a completely new attitude...
YES Mike Smith did in fact deserve the Coach of the Year award...period.
As far as Ed Reed goes, he is one hell of a player and there is no doubt about that, however, a simple review of his statistics shows that HE WAS NOT WORTHY of contention for the MVP award...
Reed had a total of 41 tackles during the 2008 regular season with 9 interceptions with 1 sack and along the way scored two TD's...
However, there were 4 other DB's in the NFL that had 7 interceptions (Nick Collins from GB, Michael Griffin from Tenn, Troy Polamalu from Pitts, and Charles Woodson from GB)...
...Reed only had 2 more picks that this grouping which is not exactly separating himself from the competition.
...
EACH and EVERY ONE of the above mentioned players (Collins, Griffin, Polamalu, and Woodson) had
wayyyyyyy more tackles on the season than Reed, as a matter of fact Nick Collins had 72 tackles which is
31 more than Reed, Griffin had 75 tackles which is
34 more than Reed, and Polamalu had 73 tackles which is
32 more tackles than Reed had...
Obviously from the stats listed it doesn't take a brain surgeon to see that Reed only had 2 more picks that his four closest competitors, however, Reed had wayyyyy less tackles on the season...
...meaning that Reed spends his time ball hawking instead of being a complete DB and providing run support for his team as the other four players listed do for their teams...Reed is no more a league MVP than you or I when compared to others in the same capacity.
Take care and be well my friend
