Sure do. I attended a number of his seminars around Santa Anita and still have his book on speed handicapping somewhere in the house. Use to carry a small version to the track with me. Also joined forces with him and others who attended his seminars in Pick 6 combinations. This was long before Beyers were introduced as the standard on the form. Taught me a great deal on how to breakdown a race and determine fractional speed breakdown, weight impact, etc. in order to envision how a race may unfold. Even so, still a tough business to handicap successfully on a daily basis.
famous touts. in and around so calif racing. jay richards use to call the replay of the races on radio every afternoon sort of a half hour commerecial for the tout service that would give you all the winning releases after he called a race. really not a bad race caller and after he would always say horse and jockey a powerfull source for winners.

had a horse called gallant warrior who i claimed for 8,000 at santa anita many years ago. horse could do nothing so we took him up to gg and ran him for 5,000. stupid northern ca trainer left the horse on the van overnight and stewards would not let us run. ten of us had flown up from la and we ended up pleading with the stewards to let us run. they did and horse led all the way but gave it up last 1-16 finished 3rd.
got claimed out of that race by clarance mccan and won 5 of 6 up north all at huge prices moving up the ladder each time. then won 2 of 3 more including a $40,000 stakes. i am still sick all these years later.

Understand. I am still feeling the affect of Caterman breaking down while training at Del Mar for the inaugural Arlington Million which was won by John Henry. He had just beaten the great one in the Sunset Handicap at Santa Anita if my recollection is correct. It's been a long time. Early 80's if I recall.
Who were the guys who used to advertise in the LA Examiner? They were like sports touts, we will give you the winner but you have to give us a cut of what it pays. Or just pay us $20 for the Daily Double, but of course you have to give us your phone number so we can harass you daily. I remember those days, wasn't even an adult yet and went to the track with the old man. I always remember the charts in the Examiner with a best bet and a longshot play. People would literally bet those, pay a quarter for advice and expect it to be winning advice. Crazy what some believe.
