Status Of Maurkice Pouncey

PITTSBURGH -- Steelers Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey missed practice Wednesday with a left ankle injury, and his status is uncertain for the Super Bowl.
Steelers players told ESPN's Rachel Nichols that Pouncey is wearing a walking boot and defensive end Chris Kemoeatu told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that the Steelers will have to do without Pouncey against Green Bay.
"We are definitely sad that he won't be able to be with us in the Super Bowl," Kemoeatu told the paper following today's practice on the South Side. "Definitely I feel bad for him. We just have to win it for him."
However, there was no official word from the team since coach Mike Tomlin did not talk to the media Wednesday. The Steelers have said that Pouncey will continue to be assessed through the week and his playing status for the Super Bowl remains uncertain until they see how he progresses.
Pouncey was injured in the first quarter of Sunday's win when Jets linebacker Bryan Thomas got pushed back into him. Thomas rolled over the back of Pouncey's leg on a 7-yard pass from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to Hines Ward to the New York 1.
Pouncey put no weight on the ankle as he hopped to the sideline with the aid of two trainers. He was replaced by Doug Legursky, and Rashard Mendenhall scored on the next play to give Pittsburgh a 7-0 lead.
After the game, Pouncey refuse to rule himself out for Green Bay.
"I had the same injury before on my other ankle and I know how to attack it," Pouncey said. "I know how to approach things. I'm ready. I know in my heart that I'm playing in that game."
Pouncey, the 18th overall pick out of Florida in April's draft, started all 16 games this season. Legursky played well in his place Sunday except for a bad exchange with Roethlisberger that led to a safety.
Safeties Troy Polamalu (Achilles) and Will Allen (knee), cornerback Bryant McFadden (abdomen), wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (foot) and offensive tackle Jonathan Scott (ribs) also sat out practice.
The Steelers are seeking their seventh Super Bowl title when they meet the Packers in Arlington, Texas, on Feb. 6.

Information from ESPN.com's James Walker and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

I don't normally like to bump my own threads, but since I wrote this two weeks ago, thought I would do so today for those that may be looking for my opinion on today's Superbowl. Best of luck everyone!

Hey OMT enjoy the Superbowl and all the festivities. Should be an extremely hard hitting football game filled with excitement. Troy Aikman just said this could the best SuperBowl in history. Nothing like SuperBowl Sunday. BOL. I am going with those Terrible Towels also. If Mendlehall is "Running The Mail" like he did against the Jets, I think you will be in the green.

Great to hear from you my friend. Glad to hear we will be on the same side. As for the Steeler running game and Mendenhall, I address that very subject in Post #8 of this thread. Best of luck to you as well today! Enjoy the game! :toast:
