SSI;

Looks like another tight game tonight. Rockets have faired well against the Lakers of late and I liked what I saw in their play against the Spurs, plus the Lakers travelling with no rest from Miami last night. We'll just have to see how it plays out. Good luck on whatever you do tonight.

Glad to see you lean toward the Rockets tonight. Tough game, but I'll side with the rested team awaiting the travelling Lakers in a big statement game for the Rockets. Good luck in your plays tonight.

Good luck on your Kings play as well as all your other plays. Since you are heavy into pucks, wishing you a strong second half of the season. Maybe I'll join in a bit when the playoffs arrive.

I like the Spurs and Kings in the West and the Nets as well in the East provided they continue to improve. Current odds at WSEX:

NBA Champion

Los Angeles: 7-5
Sacramento: 15-4
Minnesota: 5-1
San Antonio: 6-1
Indiana: 8-1
Dallas: 12-1
Detroit: 17-1
New Jersey: 18-1

Talk about value if you think the Lakers aren't going to win. You could take the top three equally in the West and make a nice little profit.

Western Conference Champion

Los Angeles: 6-5
Sacramento: 2-1
Minnesota: 4-1
San Antonio: 5-1
Dallas: 8-1

Eastern Conference Champion

Indiana: 7-4
New Jersey: 3-1
Detroit: 3-1
New Orleans: 8-1

More value. Amazing!

I definately like the Nets to win the east. trouble is ted, i dont like playing futures, with this much time left. I have a working bankroll that i actually take a monthly check off of. Well that depends on whose paying me, i get WD's off books or i collect from local. Either way, im getting paid and have been consistently for over a year. Dont know if any other players set themselves up like this but i take my paydays. I have a set amount that i keep at books, name $5000 at Oly and Pinny. but the value is there as i mentioned, hey drop into the nhl forum from time to time.. it wont be long until the nhl playoffs..

Once again, I like your continued business like approach here. Paying yourself each month is a wonderful way of feeling the sense of earning power and yet keeps your bankroll principal in place. Candidly, I think there are very few that have this type of discipline. Keep up the great work. Really enjoy our discussions. Promise to stop by the NHL Forum once in awhile. Maybe as the playoffs get closer, this oldman might even be able to get a feeling for pucks. After all the Sharks are very nearby believe it or not. I understand the game, just haven't wagered much on it in the past. Continued good luck.

I have been harsh in the past (in your exit thread)

I was only gone a short time due to medical reasons. Have been back posting since December. I'll be posting as long as my health allows. Very much enjoy the interaction with fellow posters. I remember you being a bit harsh but I brought it upon myself and apologized to the forum upon my return. Very happy being here. It's all good and water under the bridge already long since past. Good luck to you in the future.

ted, i do this to make money.. i had to try and separate the thrill of gambling, to actually making money several yrs ago.. Ive said this before, ive wagered since 1986, the first 10 were probably not profitable, then a few breakeven years followed and the last 3yrs the light switch has come on.. I take a stance and this is a broad view, of playing around 120 plays per month, going 70-50 (58%), and making around $3k per month. Now this is a general view but its attainable and ive been doing this or better for quite awhile.. Step #1 is having a bankroll (10-30k) Step #2 is a disciplined money management approach.. you can almost survive by doing these 2 things and i havent even mentioned handicapping yet..

By the way ted, you are supposed to be able to draw the games out of the hat and hit 50%, so by knowing just 6-8% more than the draw, one can make a decent amount of money..

As you and I have discussed many times before, this is a business first and foremost and emotion should have little place in this business. That doesn't mean we shouldn't enjoy what we are doing, just separate emotionally from winning and losing and treat them both the same knowing full well that at the end of a season you can confidently know that you will show a profit. The fact that you have worked your way through the early tough years, followed by the break even years and now reaching the constant winning years indicates that you have grown and learned and eliminated many of the things you were doing wrong, perhaps through youth and just the reality that in any endeavor in life it takes time to gather experience and use that experience for a positive outcome.

Although my approach is slightly different, we are on similar paths. I breakdown a season by months for each sport as depending on any given sport, the level of intensity is different throughout the season. Clearly the stretch drive in all sports is more intense then the beginning of the year. I do not anticipate how many plays I might have as that is determined based on the fundamental match-ups and line value. As you know, I have a separate bankroll for each sport and treat them accordingly. So at the peak of the football and basketball seasons, I have four bankrolls. We have also discussed our views on money management and although a bit different, they are not that far apart as most of my plays are 1 unit and I only vary a small percentage of the time. Witness this year so far. You have been open and honest to this forum about your unit value as well as your bankroll and I commend you for your honesty. I have often thought of doing the same as I have always been honest with the forum on all matters. My dilemma is that once I release that information it will surely cause a stir which will only result in disruption to the forum and good will that I wish to maintain. Suffice it to say that as you know I began this endeavor over 30 years ago with a separate bankroll and account from my living expenses. Over the course of those 30+ years, I have had only 3 losing seasons, the worst one with a winning percentage of only 47%. At the peak of my prime, I had some years that I was able to achieve 63% for the year. If you take that into consideration while using the money management techniques I have spoken of, you can imagine what that bankroll is today. That bankroll together with my 28 year career and sound financial investments allowed me to retire early in 1998 at the age of 50. I always treated my bankroll like an investment and protected it with my life's plan to retire early. Now that I am retired, the bankrolls are secure and I can play at a significant level but it took many, many years to reach this level. Basically, it was just the compounding affect of the investment. But, it took me time to be able to actually make plays at this level comfortably and still treat them just the same. I competed in tournaments to be able to get comfortable at this level. It all took time but looking back I wouldn't change the experience and am glad to have gone through and seen all that I have. It was for this reason that I registered at the RX with the intention of sharing what I have lived and little by little more of that is coming out. I look forward to continuing to share with fellow posters as well as viewers for as long as possible. I've said it numerous times before. It is what keeps this oldman going.

thanks, i believe ted to be honest..

ted, have i ever mentioned to you that i own a convenience store about 4 miles from my home.. I open the store for the most part 7 days a week, i work about 4-5hrs per day and am home by lunch to cap the games, nap and workout.. most evenings ill stop in and check things out, after working out and talk with a local bettor or 2, ill call a couple of locals and usually give them a play or 2 if i can.. pretty boring but just wanted you to know a little about who you are talking with..

I have a similiar internet friend (Bobk), he is a member here but infrequent poster, he is 64yrs and has worked for A.G. Edwards in D.C. for 30yrs.. You remind me somewhat of him.. Bob and i discuss stocks and commodities, along with sports, he is a yankee man..
