Seems to me there are a number of things at work in tonight's game between Indianapolis and New England. When these two teams met in the AFC Championship in January, both teams were in peak form both offensively and defensively with New England having enough defense to control the game, particularly through interceptions and winning 24-14. Earlier in the year, indoors, the Pats won in a shootout 38-34 which ultimately led to home field advantage in the playoffs. Playoff level of play is far more intense then regular season play as a loss means elimination. Futhermore, the playoff game last year between these two teams was the game that has had the greatest impact on enforcing the "No Chuck Rule" in preseason. As just shown on ESPN, weather tonight looks like 60% chance of light showers and 10-15 mph winds but not so much down on the field but above the stadium. Sense here is that the offenses in this game will not only be ahead of the defenses but the rule interpretation will be enough on the minds of the players, both offensively and defensively to create more wide open offense. No doubt the Colts will try to run but they most likely will move the bulk of their yardage in the air. Likewise, with a thin Pats running game, expect an aerial assault as well. Just don't believe that the Colts defense will be a major roadblock to stopping the Pats and likewise, feel that the Pats defense may be a bit tentative early, or if not, may be called for some costly penalties, thereby keeping drives alive. As to the weather, believe it may play somewhat of a role, but feel the advantage goes to the receivers as they know the routes, which could cause more downfield holding penalties. Only a strong wind could really affect these teams ability to move the ball, as with this being the first game of the season, just can't see the defenses being in peak form. If the wind does play a role, it is likely more turnovers could occur and possibly set up short field situations although where a turnover happens is never really known. Therefore, seems to me that points will be put on the board tonight in this match-up. Hence,
