Looking good on 2 of 3 so far. Hope Pitt comes back for you. BTW, I saw your post in my DRF Race Of The Day and commented. Also, my selection is posted already for the race. A number of our horse posters agree. Also, I left a message for poster cocktailsnlongshots both in that thread and his own thread about your interest in learning about racing and going to Belmont with him and Betallsports. Hope you guys can hook up. You'll love horse racing but play small as you learn.

OMT, what is your opinion on Smotz vs the Padres?

At this point, it's hard to really get a handle on Smoltz. He wouldn't have been released if he was really sharp. That doesn't mean he might not throw well today or the Cards won't win, just too many question marks for my taste. Best of luck whatever you decide.

Sounds like a plan to me. Florida and Atlanta hooked up in a real battle. Neither starting pitcher has anything today, so the bullpens are going to decide that one.

Ted, when you and others who cap their own games, do you just skim through the pitchers ERA or is it a more involved process of analyzing all the stats?

I can only speak for myself that it is much more then a pitchers ERA. I breakdown the pitchers current form in the last few games, not the year to date ERA, how has each pitcher done this year only, against their opponent today, how is the team playing. Are they on a streak (winning or losing) or playing consistent. Are they hitting or not hitting. How does the team fair against righties and lefties. What happened the day(s) before regarding the use of the bullpen and how did it do. At this time of year, is the team still in the playoff hunt or not. Overall, I try to match the teams looking for strengths against weaknesses to find a play. Hope that helps a little.

I am watching Pitt game. What a bore! Like I said before I hate betting bad teams out of it. But in the past I have picked up some money playing these games. There is still 4 innings left to play.

KON,
There are many factors to look at. Pitching, bullpens, how the team hits R vs L. Home and away records. Umpires,Weather. etc..... runs scored....

Anyone know the record on the ESPN Sunday night games? I recall the home team loses the majority of the times.

Not sure why but I like this play Teddy! :toast:

GL buddy! Should be a fun game to watch regardless of the wagers!

Thank you. Even though this appears to have all the makings of a pitcher's duel and might very well be looking at the history of both pitchers against their opposition, I didn't particularly care for Beckett's last outing against Toronto yielding 9 hits, 7 runs, 3 HR's and only striking out 4 while throwing 99 pitches in 5.1 innings. He may return to his usual form here, but I'm betting against it. The Yankees have faced him 4 times this year and he has a 4.13 ERA against them although each game was different. Meanwhile, Sabathia has faced the Red Sox twice and has a 2.45 ERA and held them to a .157 batting average. We shall see. Best of luck.
