Oldman Spending My Birthday At Santa Anita Park

Been a bit blue lately as through my own stupidity, I fear I lost a good friend on Sunday and my wife is suffering through pneumonia. If I could only make those two better, I'd give all the money that I have. Don't usually celebrate my birthday as the last gathering was 11 years ago when I turned 50 and before that when I was 16.

So, I decided today, to go back to my roots and spend a day at the track with you guys. Was introduced to racing in 1972, the year the great Secretariat was only a 2 year old, yet won the first of his two Horse Of The Year awards. He was syndicated for $6.08 million (an incredible amount back then), this before he had even run as a 3 year old, sweeping the Triple Crown. Loved racing with a passion ever since, so a bit of nostagia today.

Will be handicapping as we go, race by race. Don't necessarily recommend anyone playing these as my mental frame of mind is a bit in shock. But I will try my best and hope this will keep my mind occupied throughout the afternoon.

As always best of luck everyone! First post is at 1:00 p.m. PDT

First race is a 2 furlong sprint for 2 year old Cal-Bred fillies. Not really into a quarter horse race, so will pass this one.

Second race is for older hard knockers at 6 furlongs. Race appears to have plenty of speed, but kind of like Becerra's horse with Solis in the saddle to harnish some of his speed and stalk behind the likely pace setter Something Sonic and pass him in the stretch as he begins to tire.

Third race is for older filly maidens going 5.5 furlongs. Not much pace in this race. Just a bunch of steady middle of the pack type runners. Kind of like Lewis' filly. She has been going longer of late but when she ran at this distance closed nicely to finish second early in the year. Might run these down in the stretch. Besides my wife's name is Sally had she says so.

Fourth race is for cheap 4 year old $10,000 claimers going 6 furlongs. Couple of heavy droppers here with the horses trained by Hofmans and Mitchell (heavy favorite). Some decent speed in this race but looking more at a stalker like Hendricks horse coming off a nice finishing second at $12,500 to perhaps run down the speed.

Fifth race is for olders horses going 5.5 furlongs for a tag of $12,500. Looks like Sadler's horse could very well go wire to wire in this race at a short price. Some interesting jockey switches in this race. If the favorite falters, kind of like some stalkers to close here.

Thanks G. My age has never bothered me and doesn't today. It is more of the recent events with my wife and friend that I can't shake.

Sixth race is an allowance race for Cal-Bred fillies at 6 furlongs. Race appears wide open. Some speed in this race, so might very well set up for a come from behind type. Kind of like Ellis' returner. He is excellent with comebackers and has Rosario in the saddle. Looking for her to run down the speed in the stretch.
