According to ESPN's website, it's a done deal. USC is ranked #1 but playing in the weak ass Pac-10 cost them in computer ratings.

Blame the college presidents of the BCS schools. They're the ones that don't want a playoff. This way the keep the money among the major conferences.

I have to say this is truly amazing. End up #1 in both rankings and not get the title game. If this doesn't bring the end to the BCS system nothing will. If people thought the Nebraska bid a few years ago was a big issues they haven't seen anything yet.

Problem is the BCS is a contracted system until 2006 I believe. They can tweak the rankings, but they have to stick with this system of bowl bids until then. Even a 4 team playoff this year would be a lot better than this mess.
