Def will check this out. So many stories of wrongfully convicted people usually based off eye witness testimony even though eyewitness testimony is very unreliable

What bothers me almost as much as the Prosecuter being so obviously intent on a conviction, is the following. Regardless of the lack of ANY hard evidence, and saying "eye wit testimony is the strongest tool", is the Q, WTF is the defense lawyer in all of this. Who did he have Barney Fife? What happened to the hair, prints, blood DNA, etc that DID NOT match any of the 3 main characters in this story. Didn't anyone test it? It's universaly recognized that "eye ball" witness testimony is the LEAST reliable of all the different sorts of evidence available. And watching the scum bag cops spoon feeding this kid all the info he had no clue about is disgusting. Then last nite all the time line evidence was proven false. Where the hell is Barry Scheck (sp) on this one? Do I believe DAs & Cops will lie to convict? Of course, and from many yrs of living I know there a lot more crooked & incompetent police than most are willing to admit or recognize. This is one of the worst cases of "prosecutorial misconduct" I've ever seen. And why the hell do we have to wait till May for a decision? And that DA is now a Judge? Geez WTF is this country coming to?

Illini, thanks for bring this case to my attention. I have never heard of the case, but I find it intriguing as hell, to say the least. This poor kid. Good to know that there are some great people/attorneys out there, like that woman from Chicago. I know you can't judge a book by its cover, but that janitor who pointed him out looks shady as hell. And the prosecutor looks like a real prick. Just a crazy, crazy case...very scary. I guess they are supposed to make a decision on a retrail by May 2nd? Please keep us informed of any developments. thanks.

boy,you really got me there.lol..most insightful...i watched every minute of the trial with an open mind..this murdering punk was nothing but a spoiled brat and got off easy..

2 witnesses for the state, and neither of them were credible. And now they have both recanted. Footprints and fingerprints at the scene don't match Ferguson. What could possibly lead you to believe he's guilty? I'd bet my life that he's innocent.

Said he drove home. The other sports writer they interviewed seemed more suspicious than anyone else. That guy couldn't keep his story straight

You aint kidding.. I cant believe the police didnt even question that guy or run a DNA test on him with the hair samples they found. It should be a law that all jurors have an IQ test done before serving on a jury. The jurors in that case probably have an IQ of 75 which is borderline retarded..

Should be a hearing in late July or early August. 48 is filiming for an update. Hopefully they'll be able to show him walking free and back with his family. Like Illini said, Ferguson is 100% innocent. The State relied on 2 BS "witnesses" who have both recanted. The entire case was based on a dream of a kid whose brain was fried on drugs. He knew nothing of the crime so the detectives fed him the details. Repulsive.

I heard also he won't leave his cell. It was also reported he gained about 70 to 80 pounds since he went into prison.

Looks like Ryan Ferguson might just be one step closer to freedom...

JEFFERSON CITY • A Lincoln County court policy that allowed people to dodge jury duty by paying $50 and performing community service could result in a new trial for convicted murderer Ryan Ferguson.
Cole County Circuit Court Judge Daniel Green heard arguments Tuesday on whether the jury selection policy — which was found to be illegal last year — is enough to warrant a retrial of Ferguson’s case.
Ferguson, 26, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the 2001 murder of Columbia Daily Tribune Sports Editor Kent Heitholt. His conviction was based on the testimony of Charles Erickson, who said he helped Ferguson kill Heitholt, and Jerry Trump, who said he saw Ferguson at the scene of the crime. Both men now say they were lying during the 2005 trial and allege coercion by the original prosecuting attorney.

Might take a jury selection technicality to do justice for a kid that's is plainly innocent.

D2bets- I haven't been around, so thanks for posting these updates. I think about this kid often, and I think that everyone that cares about justice will be outraged when they watch this story.

Bump. Ferguson had a hearing last week. Hopefully he will be exonerated within a couple months. Stone cold innocent.
