Ohio St. has double motivation in this game because they lost by two touchdowns to the Wolverines last season and they are dressing up as home dogs in this contest. Home dogs in this series have been gravy bringing home the money five of the last six times and that one loss was by a half point. Ohio St. has not been flashy under Jim Tressel but they do know how to win big games. Tressell has gotten his troops to do something that the man he replaced couldn't do and that was beat Michigan. So now with the program being under fire and a good season in jeopardy, Tressel will find that nerve in his group and get them up to win this game on their home turf as he has done several times since coming to Columbus..

The Wolverines have had their fun the last two weeks rolling up points on Northwestern and Michigan St. but lost in all of the fun of reaching the end zone is that their opponents have reached the end zone quite a bit too. Michigan has given up 57 points the last two weeks. That is hardly worthy of road favorite status versus a good team that doubles as your biggest rival. Michigan has one win against a quality team on the road and that was against a Purdue team that was collapsing. Michigan couldn't win at Notre Dame and I don't think they can beat the Buckeyes. Their defense will fail them and their offense will have trouble against an Ohio St. team bringing and intense defensive effort.

Sorry, I don't see how OSU beats UM.

Michigan's had some close calls this season, but their only loss was their first road game @ Notre Dame. It was only the 2nd game of the season, none of the freshmen on the team knew what was going on, and the offense was completely out of sync. On top of that, the coaches had an ultra-conservative gameplan for their wet-behind-the-ears QB to try and limit the mistakes he could make. Not many true frosh QBs will come out of that kind of situation with a win. But the important thing is Michigan has gotten better in a big way as the season has gone on...arguably the most improved team in the country. The offense is the highest scoring in the Big 10...and I'm not even sure how a defensive coordinator would go about stopping them. Braylon Edwards is the best WR in all of college football; he's tall, he's fast, he's strong, and he wins just about every 50-50 ball thrown his way. OSU's secondary probably couldn't stop him even if they were at 100%, but they're banged up coming into this game...with 3 of 4 secondary starters listed as questionable. They'll probably play anyways, but thats a huge problem, because if they drop more defenders back into coverage...then that will allow Mike Hart to dance through their secondary like Kevin Bacon in "Footloose." Some media pundits are finally thinking twice before anointing Adrian Peterson the best freshman RB in all of college FB. In his last 5 games, Hart's <!--EZCODE ITALIC START-->lowest<!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> single game rushing total was 151 yards. He's just an exceptional back, so Michigan should be able to do what they want on offense.

OSU's offense, on the other hand, is ranked 8th in the big 10. Their defense is not bad, but not as good as it used to be...and the offense just goes through too many 3-and-outs, thus making the defense stay on the field for too long. So to sum all that up...Michigan has a potent offense and Ohio state doesn't. OSU's only home conference wins have come against Penn State and Indiana...both of them have 1-6 records, not exactly super impressive. Michigan will wear down the Buckeye defense, and OSU just won't have the firepower to come back when they fall behind. Michigan will roll BIG...34-13

Too many people are overlooking two things. First, Michigan will be supermotivated knowing a win here gets them to Pasadena. Second, OSU imo has all the pressure as they haven't played at home since Clarett came public. If they fall behind, crowd may turn on them in this one. With the strength of Michigan's defense being their secondary and with Ohio State relying on offense with a quarterback who has less experience than Henne and their #1 option being Guinn who is a freshman who wasn't even the best player on his high school team, I don't know how people are this confident in betting Ohio State. Look at their common opponents.....

Michigan St. - both won
Northwestern- Michigan win, OSU loss
Purdue- Michigan win, OSU loss
Indiana- both won
Iowa- Michigan won, OSU loss

I don't see how Buckeyes stay within single digits in this one. Just my opinion.

There are 2 "X Factors" in this game, as far as The Ohio State University is concerned. Number 1: Ted Ginn, and how often the ball is in his hands. He is simply electric, and can score from just about anywhere on the field in so many different ways--run, catch, return. If he can get lots of touches, the Buckeyes may have a real shot at an upset.

The second "X-Factor" will be offensive line play for the Buckeyes. Up until now, it has been mediocre at best. Complaints in Columbus are that the line simply isn't very well coached and certainly isn't as aggressive as it needs to be. Will it suddenly begin to open holes this afternoon and drive the Michigan d-line off the ball? If not, tough to see the Buckeyes succeeding today...

Just an aside for next year: The quarterback situation for '05 is far from settled because of the oustanding development of redshirt Todd Boeckman. Keep your eyes on this...there is speculation that Zwick may never be more than a backup. If that's the case, why would he want to stay?

Yea you're right- Ginn wasn't even the best player on his high school team, but Rivals had him as the #2 recruit in the nation last year.

Don't need a reason for anything ass****. Just an opinion. Thats the problem with posts on the RX; to many people writting to much useless information about every single game. Michigan takes this one huge :finger:

Go Bucks,

He may have been the ranked #2 by rivals but that was based on world class speed. You may have missed the pregame show last week of OSU/Purdue game where a clip was done on Smith and Guinn who played at the same high school. Guinn was portrayed as a difference maker but not the star of the team. Smith's dad coached the team and Smith was the star though not heavily recruited. Michigan has enough speed of their own to contain him as well experience and good football players in the defensive backfield to contain him just as Purdue did. BOL.

Kojak-

Best of luck to you as well- I have always enjoyed your posts and selections! It is hard to be the top player on your team as a defensive back/punt returner/Wide out. The QB always has the ball, especially in high school. I have to give Tressell credit for getting Ginn the ball in space to make plays. I agree that one player is easy to contain and without a running game and against a very tough Michigan defensive backfield OSU is up against it today. I would never lay points on the road in this rivalry though.

Have to disagree with you on this one Pete..

Michigan has too good a D for that pop gun Offense of Ohio St to do much of anything there. Michigan has found just about every way to win this year, the ND game not withstanding. Just can't see them faltering to a team that won't score more than 14 to 17 points today.

Mich all the way

I would hate to lay points if that Mich qb throws a early int. The Mich offense will get VERY conservative then and play into the Bucks hands.

I think Ohio State on the money line is a smart bet, but in order to win, Ohio State will need to score.

Did you see the Ohio State - Penn State game earlier thise season? It was painful to watch...for both teams. Punt. Punt. Punt.

Boring as fire too.

LSU PETE provided you a money line pick based on his college acumen, which is high.....and the fact that he is one of the best at money line dog upsets.

take a look at Illinois on the ml as well. Also Wisky, and Florida tonight
