Anybody remember when the pros played the college guys.....I bet Journeyman knows.....

Yes I do, they called it the College All Star game where the College All Stars played the defending Super Bowl Champs....the game was last played in the 70's , the last game was cancelled due to a lightning storm....I believe the game was always played at Soldier Field

It is funny thinking back , they played this game in preseason every year, no way in the world they would play this game now, way too much money at stake.

Can you see Teddy Ginn Jr breaking his leg while returning a punt in a game like this?

JMAN....absolutely knew I could count on you....Way too much money at stake, but the combines of today take the place of those games, coaches really liked seeing and evaluating the talent playing against the pros...

very true...the game would be severely 'dated' today...it is fun to think about a college team playing an NFL team but we will never see it today.

I was thinking earlier how a team like Ohio State would fair against a CFL team, that is somewhat more realistic.

I remember these types of discussions going back to Georgetown's 1985 team and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Nobody told Villanova.

No way a college team beats a pro team, especially football. You are talking about men playing against 19, 20, 21 and 22 year old kids. The offensive and defensive lines of the pro team would absolutely destroy the o and d lines of the collegians.

The Raiders would work OSU from top to bottom. And I'm an OSU grad.

Last All-Star game played in July 76 with Steelers as NFL champs. First game in 1943 with All-Stars winning 27-7 behind Otto Graham who sealed game with 97 yd int TD return. Packers lost in 63 which pissed Vinny.

I'm sure the NFL took it easy on them in thise games...plus back then speed and strength were not nearly as significant...you didn't have the perfect physical speciman lined up at each position.

Back in the days when All-Stars got a couple wins most (even stars) NFL players had off season jobs and did not work out and got soft. So not surprising when a group of in prime 20 year olds play against guys that aren't in game shape at 30+ especially when game not as complex as today. As Vinny said, " It's all about blocking and tackling" Skills that are lacking today.
