The Pats continue to improve. Trading mike Hoomanowee to the saints for de/dt Akim Hicks. So far this week they have received a former 2nd and 3rd rounder for 4th and 6th rounder.

It wouldn't surprise me if the NFL made the process of trading in-season much less complex in the next CBA.

This would make things a lot more interesting and people would eat up the speculation just like they do with NBA free agency or the MLB trade deadline. Imagine if the Ravens could just put Steve Smith on the block and he could join a contender to chase a ring if they're 1-5? Just a lot of possibilities. Would be good for the game.

This is 1 area the NFL has always failed at compared to the other sports.

Because it saves them about 800k in salary cap which they desperately need due to the brutal Brees and Gallette contracts killing them.
