that was by far Canada's best game of the tournament. A fantastic team defensive effort, leaving Sweden with few quality scoring chances. Penalty killing was tremendous, Eberle and Hodgson put on a clinic. Happy to see Myers rebound with a great game. Rovere had only one shift in the 3rd, after picking up that stupid interference penalty in the 2nd.

5 straight Gold Championships and have a won a medal 10 years in a row in Jr hockey's most prestigious tournament. Fantastic. Kudos all around, it truly has been a grassroots effort in Canada. THOUSANDS of volunteers make it happen from to coast to coast, the game is played in nearly every town. Making hockey available for all the age grps (ice puppies 4,5,6 yr olds to minor peewee, etc) , anyone can play (various levels, introductory to rep. hockey). A proliferation of hockey camps/clinics/schools concentrating on anything from defensemen skills/training to power skating have evolved (just here in central Ontario--Laura Stamm, Sony Shewchuk, Doug Autoine school (Dong is OUTSTANDING btw), Sk8on, etc etc. And finally kudos to Hockey Canada, they have stepped up to the plate this past decade organizing camps to centralize our gifted ones from around the country at early ages.

Congratulations to Canadian hockey

Congratulations to those young fellows and the best of luck to them in the future. At least better luck than their predesessors in Canada who haven't been able to bring a Stanley Cup home for the last 16 years running. Almost hard to image their futility. Who knows...maybe Mats can break the jinx.

lol

not sure what to make of this post. The fact that a 'Canadian' team hasn't won a Stanley Cup for 16 yrs or so means absolutely NOTHING wrt the status of current Canadian hockey---you do understand this, correct? These 'American' teams that are winning the Stanley Cup are 'American' only in geography. See that Anaheim team that won it a few yrs ago, their top 8 players were all Canadians, including their brilliant goalie, and the CS winner was smoooooooooooooth Scotty. That fantastic Detroit team of yours is carried by some brilliant Swedish and Russian players, and for many years an OUTSTANDING Canadian carried that team, Mr. S Yzerman.

S Stamkos won a jr Gold Medla a yr ago, he now plays for Tampa Bay-- he has no chance at 'bringing a Stanley Cup home to Canada'.

'At least better luck than their predesessors in Canada who haven't been able to bring a Stanley Cup '

you mean guys like Mario Lemieux? he played for the Penguins, not the Montreal Canadians. You see the point, right? Guys like S Yzerman? lol

16 years and running those good ol' Canadian boys have failed to bring the Cup home where it rightfully belongs. I mean...what's wrong with this picture. You'd think at least once in the last 16 at least one of those teams could get their shit together and figure out how to make the people happy up there. And now you have 2 Americans running the richest, most famous team in the country. What dear lord is this world coming to?

haha, sideways ya go old sport. You got the point, just too embarrased to acknowledge it, or too stupid. I'll give ya the benefit of the doubt and go with the former.

Best player in the game. Non Canadian. Best defenceman in the game. Non Canadian. Top 4 tenders in the win column this season. Non Canadian. Canada= NHL's breding ground for 3rd and 4th line pluggers these days. Top executive [Bettman] in the game is an American.

p.s. just bustin your balls champ. C'mon down off your high horse. Your kids are great. But that don't get around the fact that America has stole your game from under your feet.

huh? my first post in this thread was an opinionated, informative, congratulatory post. Not jingoistic, if you intrepreted it otherwise, that's your problem. YOUR 1st post in this thread was ignorant with misplaced mockery. My reply to that was accordingly. You didn't like the tone?

ah yes, the NHL is filled with elite American players. Just look at your Redwings---Rafalski and Chelios.....that all-American team.... now don't get all rattled, thought i'd return the favor and 'bust your balls'....

Ivan started the circle jerk with an ignorant post. You did nothing but add to his ridiculas rant. Your country's doing a fine job producing 3rd and 4th line pluggers as I stated. Canada no longer dominates the sport as it once did. You know it and so do I. Kirk Maltby and Kris Draper are playing a wonderful role on our checking line. Just as 90% of what the other teams role players are made up of. Canada doesn't have the population or revenue like the states do to grow the game that it is today. The economy's in the shitter so it's struggling now. Until then the league was growing at a very good pace. And Canada still couldn't support another team. The commissioner is an American, a Canadian team hasn't won a Cup since 93' and the Canadian dollar is falling back to where it belongs once again. They've produced [one] significant top ten draft pick since at least 99'. Sidney Crosby. If Bettman hadn't installed the salary cap when he did you'd be down to 4 teams right now.
God bless Hockey Night in Canada. You still know how to produce a great game. The sport is evolving my friend. But I doubt you'd realize that cause it looks like you spend most of your time here at the RX arguing in the political forum. Where you belong.

unbelievable. you let that fool Ivan get you going, lol. And here I was foolish enough to give you the benefit of the doubt. Can you please let me know in my 1st and 2nd posts WHICH ASPECT WAS IGNORANT on my part?? this should be real good

Canada cant support another team?? seriously you are clueless

Bettman?? he has hurt hockey, ANYBODY who knows the game knows this. The guy is a lawyer basketball guy masquerading as some hockey wise man. ARE YOU INSANE??

btw, Canada NEVER dominated hockey, yet another inaccurary in your above ignorant debacle. IMO they should not be listed as favs to win the Oly Gold come 2010-- I like Russia and Sweden. I got a hunch USA wont win, lol, despite all 'that money' thrown at USA Hockey(will Chelios start? he'll be what 50 by them?--sorry I couldnt resist. Kinda funny how Canada is , as you say, only producing checkers 3rd and 4th line players yet have a recent outstanding track record in jr hockey and pro hockey INTERNATIONALLY--- strange, eh?

the game is REALLY growing in America, Bushay?......does ABC, NBC or CBS cover the games??

I think that NBC picked up the option for this season. Post Lock Out they covered some Saturday games and most Sunday day games a little after the halfway point of the season.

Right after you set your duffle bag down and grabbed your pom poms out and started your "Gimme a C........." chant.

?Canada cant support another team?? seriously you are clueless

Winnipeg, Quebec...Edmonton and Calgary before Bettman implemented the cap. Ontario is the only region that CAN but the Teachers union will NEVER allow another team into the area to draw the TV money from the Leafs. So your done there.

>Bettman?? he has hurt hockey, ANYBODY who knows the game knows this. The guy is a lawyer basketball guy masquerading as some hockey wise man. ARE YOU INSANE??

Is that right? Why don't you take a few minutes and explain exactly how HE HURT the game. Take your time. This is going to be fun. I promise!

>btw, Canada NEVER dominated hockey, yet another inaccurary in your above ignorant debacle.

Maybe you misunderstood me. By dominating I mean the majority of players in the NHL were dominated by players of Canadian nationality. I apologize if you misunderstood me.

>IMO they should not be listed as favs to win the Oly Gold come 2010-- I like Russia and Sweden.

I happy for you. But whats that got to do with this conversation?

>I got a hunch USA wont win, lol, despite all 'that money' thrown at USA Hockey

No, you misunderstood again. Your hearing what you WANT to hear it seems. Slow down and take your time. I'm not saying that the American players are any better than they EVER were. Never even hinted at that. I'm saying that the growth and the future of the league is based on the situation here in the states. You see...there's over 300,000,000 million people in the states. THAT'S where the growth is going to come from. Or in Europe. The 30 million in Canada is pretty much all maxed out. And has been for a while now.

>(will Chelios start? he'll be what 50 by them?--sorry I couldnt resist.

Ouch! That one hurt. I bet his hand hurts too when he tries to fit all the Cup rings on his hand all at one time.

> Kinda funny how Canada is , as you say, only producing checkers 3rd and 4th line players yet have a recent outstanding track record in jr hockey and pro hockey INTERNATIONALLY--- strange, eh?

I'm just fucking with you when I tell you that chump. Although there is a lot of truth to that one. I just shouldn't say it. I'm sure it doesn't sit well.

But please don't misunderstand me. I don't have ANY problem with Canada. Never have and I doubt I never will. Living 20 minutes from the Windsor border I've spend a great deal of time in that country and enjoy myself most every time I go. Played in many tournaments and drank a lot of your beer over the years. And growing up with HNIC was a staple in our household on Saturday evenings.

>the game is REALLY growing in America, Bushay?......does ABC, NBC or CBS cover the games??

Well, we got 2 teams in sunny Florida. One that's one a Cup, The other danced in the dance. And you don't have enough corporate sponsorship to keep a team in Winnipeg and Quebec. And yes..NBC DOES cover the games. And from everything I've heard it should be back on ESPN by next season or the following year for sure.

Eagerly waiting on your Bettman explanation. :think2:

Sure they could, they should have been saved. Bettman trying to expand the game to regions that could care less--Atlanta, Nashville, Phx, Florida (I think half the fans at TB and Panther games are Cdn retirees). Gretz coulnd't even save hockey in LA-- they giving tickets out for free at King's games yet? still have that special, but Lakers tickets and will give you free Kings ticket? Winnipeg and Quebec filled the house, two great fan bases. Are you familiar with them? their jr programs there and fan support of them as well? Bettman should rot in hell, fucking idiot knows nothign of the game.

how far will hockey go in North America with no Canadian based teams?

gotta do better than that, sport. Try again. You said I made ignorant statements, NOW TRY AGAIN, where in posts 1 and 2 did I make statements that are ignorant? Elaborate

>I got a hunch USA wont win, lol, despite all 'that money' thrown at USA Hockey

I did slow down, sport. I WAS MESSIN' WITH YA-- ya can diss it but can't diagnose when it's coming straight back at ya? lol

that said, growth from viewership? good grief, hockey aint going anywhere in popularity in USA, one can argue it's 'maxed out'. They don't give a damn--you CANT EVEN GET A MAJOR NETWORK TO CARRY IT, capiche??? Europe?? where? England? Germany? they will laugh you out the door. It's a soccer continent, good grief. Hockey is a niche sport in Europe, just like in USA, (much stronger support in a few countries Swe, Czec, Fin, Russ, obviously).

hmm, second time you stated it, so you'd understand my confusion, no, chump?

Ok, i'm done with you. Your now wasting my time. I asked you for some specific reasons Bettman ruined the game and you just avoid the question like half the others you dodged around. The game hasn't been this exciting since I can remember. And it's happening on his watch. A lot of Canadians i talk with dont like Bettman for the simple fact he's an American. And like you can never give a solid reason what HE alone fucked up about the game.

You've got 27 posts at this site and close to half on this thread alone it seems. You dont add anything but arguments like I've went and read in the only other forum you've posted in. The Political forum. Oh yes, there was one other where you corrected a guys documented plays.

Documented plays? Hmmm, ever cross YOUR mind?

Go argue about how Bush fucked up your country. You seem comfortable with that one. Happy New Year!

okay. And the reason why Cdn content in NHL teams have decreased is beacuse the increase number of scouts teams are sending overseas. NOT BEACUSE WE ARE PRODUCING LESS QUALITY PLAYERS. The NHL is NOW looking for the planets very best. 30 yrs ago, that wasn't the case, they were only looking in N America (Salming, Stastny were few and far between, now its a race for Europe's best to come to the NHL for the cash cow). Of course 30 yrs ago Europe likely had many players that could have played in the NHL. Russia was communist at the time. Times most certainly have changed. Again, Canada NEVER 'dominated' hockey. TWO COUNTRIES historically have been head and shoulders over the rest (international trophies): Russia (pop 140mill) and Canada (pop 30mill)--those two countires still to this day, are the planets elite, imo. When a hockey tournamnet begins folks still to this day ask, when are Canada and Russia playing?

lol, settle down, take a deep breadth. Don't worry about my post count, it has nothing to do with this dialogue. I don't care if Bettman is American, Japanese, Russian or Martian. IMO he has not expanded the game to the rightmarkets (I have already mentioned that and you igonored it). He hasn't marketed the game well--the game does not have a contract on a major US network and its 2009. THE GAME USE TO HAVE A MAJOR NETWORK COVERING.

now, can you please stop dancing and answer where in my first two posts were the so called 'ignorant' statement I made?? ELABORATE

btw, Bush didn't fuck up my country. Why are you talking about Bush anyway? losing your cool?

I've got to say that I find this post to be in good taste, unlike Ivan's.

Bushay, I know you're a regular poster here but you're coming across as a huge ass in this thread. I personally find your cocky Red Wings rants pretty funny but now you're arguing just to be an internet tough guy.

BTW, if you think Gary Bettman is a good commissioner you need therapy.
