As quoted in the 9th Edition of the Physicians' Desk Reference, better known as the PDR:

"According to the American Psychiatric Association, anyone displaying one or more of these warning signs should be evaluated by a doctor as soon as possible:"

1. Marked personality change
2. Inability to cope with problems and daily activities
3. Strange or grandiose ideas
4. Obsessive ideas
5. Prolonged depression and apathy
6. Marked changes in eating or sleeping patterns
7. Thinking or talking about suicide
8. Extreme highs and lows
9. Abuse of alcohol or drugs
10. Excessive anger, hostility, or violent behavior

Unfortunately, I continue to hit my usual percentage of between 55%-60%.

OldManTed- how is that unfortunate?

FTR- I have none of those characteristics/symptoms...although I am a bit addicted to TheRx, which some may construe as mental illness.

JMan:

This is one list I'd prefer not to be hitting a winning percentage.

I have encountered every symptom below sine my arrival in Belize. Maybe the SHRINK can help.

Sometimes one symptom would culminate into another.

Example:

delusions or hallucinations:
Would sometimes happen when I was driving and thought I saw a fast food joint.

strong feelings of anger:
After realizing I was hallucinating

confused thinking:
If Subway is in Belize, Mc Donalds must be here somewhere.

dramatic changes in eating or sleeping habits:
Who needs American fast food restaurants when you have Rice & Beans. Several servings of rice and beans can lead to extreme bloating and interfere with your sleeping habits.

intense fear of weight gain
The only symptom I never had and the locals
should have.

confused thinking
prolonged depression (sadness or irritability)
feelings of extreme highs and lows
excessive fears, worries and anxieties
social withdrawal
dramatic changes in eating or sleeping habits
strong feelings of anger
delusions or hallucinations
growing inability to cope with daily problems and activities
suicidal thoughts
denial of obvious problems
numerous unexplained physical ailments
substance abuse

In older children and pre-adolescents:

substance abuse
inability to cope with problems and daily activities
change in sleeping and/or eating habits
excessive complaints of physical ailments
defiance of authority, truancy, theft, and/or vandalism
intense fear of weight gain
prolonged negative mood, often accompanied by poor appetite or thoughts of death
frequent outbursts of anger

In younger children:

changes in school performance
poor grades despite strong efforts
excessive worry or anxiety (i.e. refusing to go to bed or school)
hyperactivity
persistent nightmares
persistent disobedience or aggression
frequent temper tantrums

That PDR or whatever doesn't know what it's talking about...how can it when it left of the number 1 sign -- the sign of all signs:

Having over 1000 posts at the Rx!

On a serious note, if you notice these and they are different than your normal mode/attitude or whatever, certainly doesn't hurt to talk to you doctor about a counselor or psychiatric evaluation.

I now believe that Sadam Hussein, will win his trial on being mentally ill. He did say "I am the President of Iraq"
