Married with a child....., would you expect your wife to study, work or do something other then stay home and do nothing all day? Just something I'm dealing with now.

If your wife is staying at home with the child then she is not doing nothing all day. That's my opinion.

Whether she should work in addition depends on many factors.

Depends on the woman and circumstance. If she stays at home with the kid, she may think taking care of the child is her job. She could think: why go to school? why do anything I don't want to? It can be very frustrating but every woman is different. Some get motivated to finally do something if they see things can possbily fall apart. Some don't care after a child is born because you're pretty much going to take care of her and the child for at least 18 years whether you guys split up or not. Some find the motivation from within to improve not only their lives but also those around them and don't need any prompting or urging. Good luck guy with your situation.

her son (my nephew) has diabetes and has since he was 18-months-old

she takes him to school and picks him up

AND

she has to go back at lunch time to take his blood until he is old enough to do it himself

so she "gets a pass" here on this one because she looks after her son all the time and can't possibly work until he can take his own blood and monitor his own diabetes

in your situation - hard to say w/o knowing all involved. i can see both sides of the argument, though

Watching children is a full time job, if you do it correctly. Its not easy! Remember this , if she works you will hvae to watch child!

these are the kinds of things you are supposed to work out before you get married and before you have a kid. Its situation specific. But obviously if you need th emoney she should go to work. if not she can stay home as long as she does her "job" at home.

agree - it kills me to see him with this although as i told my bro-in-law he could have gotten a lot worse "problems" so if he had to have something this was one of the best. but the mood swings he goes thru because of his blood sugar level is amazing. my sis/bro-in-law have missed many occasions or had to leave early because he couldn't take it anymore and they had to leave. every year when asked what i want for Xmas my answer is the same - find a way to get rid of his Type 1 Diabetes and if you never get me another gift the rest of my life i will never complain. i love the kid like a son and love sending him all sorts of goodies and the like (cards, puzzles, etc.)

I was a single dad for many years. You try staying at home with a kid for even half the day every day. it isn't easy. keeping a child is a full time job in itself.

If she's going to stay at home and money's not an issue, her best use of time will be to teach your child to read at an accelerated rate.


Read to him and listen to him read back. As much as possible.

Have the little scudder hit 2nd/3rd grade reading 2+ years ahead of rest of class and his basic education will be about 100x easier and more fruitful.
