Off Topic - Anyone have experience with merchant accounts?

Can anyone reccomend a good company to contact regarding accepting credit cards? I have contacted a few and they all seem real shady to me for some reason.

Just get a business Paypal account, and you can take any credit card. Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. Most merchant accounts will not accept all 4 of these methods. That means if you want to accept all credit cards you need more than one merchant account. And this is costly.

Sherman, imho you are better off getting the merchant account and IF you want you can add paypal, reason for that is that there is quite a bit of history regarding paypal shutting down accounts (and effectively business as a whole) for no good reason and then you have a real nightmare getting your account unlocked or the funds you kept there

That is the "payment gateways", they are rather reputable companies

Last but not least...........if you are going to use this stuff for internet transactions make sure you take as many precautions as you can to avoid fraud ("duh!" I know but still worth saying it), if that's what you are going to do I can let you know of a couple of interesting things for preventing people from stealing the money and the product you sold
