Charlie Strong Staff Moves:

Fires DB coach Chris Vaugh
Loses OC Jay Norvell (to Arizona State, he'll be the new WR coach at ASU)

Following up on reports that surfaced earlier today, Texas head coach Charlie Strong has confirmed in a statement that Chris Vaughnis no longer a member of his Longhorns coaching staff.

“Chris did a tremendous job for us,” the statement from Strong began. “He’s a terrific football coach and a great person. However, circumstances have put us in a position that we are going to part ways.”

While those circumstances weren’t specified, it’s believed they’re tied to the NCAA’s investigation into the Ole Miss football program.

From 2008-11, Vaughn was an assistant under Houston Nutt with the Rebels. One report in connection to Vaughn’s ouster at UT stated that “the facts against Vaughn [in the Ole Miss case] ‘were damning,'” while another said the “NCAA has a ‘thick file’ on Vaughn.”

Vaughn had spent the past two seasons as Strong’s defensive backs coach. While his two-year contract had expired late last month, he had an option for a third year that, prior to the Ole Miss developments, was expected to be picked up by the football program.
This Ole Miss business just gets better by the day...So what does this say, not just bagmen and boosters were involved, but direct involvement by coaches and administrators? I guess it will all eventually come out. For Texas to let a good assistant coach go because of it tells me there could be some teeth to the story that hasn't been released to the public yet..Strong definitely knows something about it though.

Art Briles has led Baylor to three consecutive 11-2 seasons. Recently, he proudly told reporters that Baylor's
2016 recruiting class is "arguably the best class in school history." The class ended up No. 17 by ESPN, and
one third of them were ESPN 300 talents. Nineteen of Briles 21 recruits came from Texas. Compare that to
say Oklahoma who had only three Texas recruits. Times they are a changing!

SPRING PRACTICE is around the corner for most all schools. Arizona kicked off their spring
drills last Friday. UAB will begin practice today with around 60 players even though the Blazers
first game is in 2017.

Spring practice presents a ton of stories and should be interesting to follow the next month
or two.

Southern Miss: Former North Carolina defensive coordinator Dan Disch will join the Southern Miss staff, according to the Hattiesburg American. Disch was out of coaching in 2015 and was the co-defensive coordinator at Southern Miss in 2011.

Dan Disch is from Jacksonville, FL. His late father-in-law (Ellis "The Jet" Johnson) was my HS coach. His brother was on the same staff w/ Coach Johnson and their father, the late Jerry Disch, was the Duval County High Schools Director of Athletics.

Dan Disch was the head coach at Ed White HS in Jacksonville and was hired as DB coach by Ron Zook at Florida (it was a poor hire as Disch had no college coaching experience). After Zook was fired and got the Illinois job Dan Disch followed and coached at Illinois until Zook got fired. He then hooked up w/ Larry Fedora at Southern Miss and then UNC (he and Fedora were on Zook's UF staff together). He's moved a lot, but has had a pretty good college coaching career since 2004 (his first season at UF). I'm sure he's made 3-4 times what he would have made if he stayed in the HS ranks...but the moving has to suck.

Yep, the really, really, early line on the game is is UAB -6.5 on your Gators.

Now, I admit line could change between now and 2017 but I'm all over the Blazers right now.

Hope the hell Florida pays them a good game fee...................

When UAB gets into high-gear and they pursue blue-chip recruits with a vengeance they will end-up becoming a solid program (Osmosis alone will see to it) along with the help of a few of the many "diehards" in the State. The Crimson Tide "overflow" alone will be enough to fill-up their roster with top-notch talent. Football in the State of Alabama isn't a sport......It is a religion...... (lol).

AMAZING!

Zero Texas Longhorns were drafted in 2014. Five were drafted in 2015 but only
one is on the list of 332 players invited to the 2016 NFL Combine.

AMAZING!

Going into the 2015 season, Army was 0-20 straight up and 1-18 against the spread in their
last 20 true road games since 2011.

Quarterback Dylan McCaffrey, the high school junior who is the brother of Stanford star Christian McCaffrey,
says he has committed to playing for Michigan. The younger McCaffrey said he didn't want to follow in his
brothers footsteps at Stanford. The quarterback selected Michigan over UCLA, Colorado and Duke.

Notre Dame starting right guard Steve Elmer says he no longer wants to play football and will skip his final
season. The 6-5, 315 pound Elmer says he has an "incredible opportunity" in business and wants to pursue
it. Good for him!

All of these players today must come to the realization that there is a life after football. Look at the odds against their playing in the NFL or even the CFL not to mention a good possibility of a career-ending injury that could finish it all.

That's why it's absurd to "pay" college players and the arguments for it. Literally about 1% of D1 football players will play pro football. Only 3 schools this year have 9 players invited to the NFL combine, most schools have less than 3 invited. These kids come out of HS and think they are on the fast track to the NFL. That's only true for about 50 HS kids a year, the others that do make it to the NFL will usually last no more than 2-3 seasons. Then what?

Anyone see the report about Charlie Strong banging a University of Louisville Trustee's wife? The guy wants Charlie to come to Kentucky to testify. This is going to be good...

Wow !!! A Trustee's wife; I thought "Ol Charlie" was smarter than that. He must certainly realize that some husbands can't take a joke. I wonder if the "banging" occurred during Kentucky Derby week ? They say a lot of weird "stuff" goes-on in and around the Louisville area during that period of time.
Does anyone know if Charlie is married ? A lot of wives don't go for that "stuff" either.
