Somebody who runs a Lakers blog made some great points about why this trade would be detrimental for them. I can't find the entry and don't remember all his points, but I do remember these:

- Odom is a great rebounder; Artest is not. Odom's rate of grabbing available rebounds is outrageously high
- Artest goes through long stretches of games where he completely abandons the offense and instead just starts posting up or taking shots from deep for no reason.

Personally, I agree with the guy. Also, Odom is a better finisher around the basket and gets easier baskets than Artest does. He also doesn't need the ball in his hands too much in order to get his points, unlike Artest. In addition, Odom is an adequate defender and doesn't get enough credit for his versatility on that end.

I will say that the Lakers are better off with Artest's lockdown ability on that end than Odom's versatility IF Bynum continues to progress and is a real presence on the defensive end.

I agree with the guys points cause they all are true. But at the same time Kings only had one really good scorer in Martin. Thats why Artest would just take stupid shots sometimes. Also i think Artest is more consistent than Odom. But Artest would be straight defense. Any offense he gives them would be a bonus.

jake is right about one thing though. i won't say Houston is better than LA but they are def. a top 5 team in the league if healthy. but lakers are certainly in that mix, probably in the top 2, assuming Bynum plays as well as he did before the injury....and who knows maybe he won't.

This would be a good move. Odom can be great at times, but then at others you wonder how he even gets on the court.

As for the other debate going on in here, I actually agree that the Lakers are not a top 5 team. In order I rate the top 5: Boston, Detroit, San Antonio, Cleveland, and New Orleans. The Lakers would be number 6 IMO. Bynum really won't be a big difference maker this year in my opinion. Never really saw what everyone got so excited about last year. We'll see, but I expect him to be a pretty big bust next year.

Also, no way you can talk about Houston in the top 5. They aren't even top 10 IMO. I have no idea how that team won so many games in a row. I wouldn't be surprised if they missed the playoffs this season.

L.A. was exposed defensively in the playoffs and particularly the finals against the Celtics. One thing Artest would bring is toughness and attitude that could spread to others. Odom disappeared and was foul prone in the playoffs. The Lakers won't get any better until they address the defensive weaknesses as well as dump the players that show up when they want to. I think it would be a good move for the Lakers. Just my two cents.
DONT BLAME THE PLAYERS BALME THE LAZY OLD HEAD COACH!!

btw- didbt the LAL lose to Detroit too 4-1 with shaq

LAL have a coaching prroblem, players are okay
