is legal in the NHL? It's because there are real men playing a real sport. These jive ass so called NFL "tough guys" would be turtle-ing like a bitch if they actually had to take their helmets off and face each other mano y mano.

I get asked about fighting a lot because, well, I used to do it a lot. The most common question is why do they allow the fights.

The answer is simple, with several layers of complication.

Respect - you don't act like Beckham and Norman when you have the option to take the helmets off and go at it, without the risk of 52 teammates, coaches, trainers, media, fans etc. jumping into the fray to try to cleat or sucker punch somebody.

Let them step back and see who is the tougher man, or the more prepared man. I bet one or both of them would have passed on it.

You get more room when people fear you. Don't question it, it's true. If you are sitting there saying to yourself "it wouldn't change the way I play" - think again - you would not play a guy who has the option to whip your ass as closely or as physically with a guy who won't. Just a fact.

More to come - cleaning lady just showed up.

Your initial statement is incorrect. Fighting is not legal in the NHL. If you fight, you get penalized, so it's not legal to fight in NHL. The difference is if you fight in NFL, you get kicked out of game, fined and possibly suspended for future games. Only stupid players get into actual fights in the NFL. Trying to say NHL players are tougher just because they fight and NFL players don't is a ridiculous statement.

Lol, why exactly am I an idiot? Because I pointed out how stupid your argument is? Because I pointed out that fighting IS illegal in NHL? Seems to me you are the idiot in this thread.

They are tougher by a mile. Most NFL guys would run for cover if the gloves came off.

Hey we bullied our way to a pair of Stanley Cups around here Gasman so I know of what you speak.

"You get more room when people fear you."

Lots more room. The Russians shit their pants on Broad Street. Even left the ice for awhile. It was awesome!

Sure, you get penalized for fighting in the NHL. But it's the intimidation that counts. So if you're a dirty cross-checking player but are afraid to drop the gloves afterward, you're either going to learn to play cleaner or wash out of the league. Out of all the major sports the NHL players solve their disputes in the best way..... Can't have that in the NBA as the fans are on the court. But in MLB and NFL there should be a bigger punishment to the players leaving the dugout/bench during a fight than the one meted out to the fighters themselves.

You're nitpicking.

Relative to other sports it's legal. 5m each for fighting with no other consequences to either team is not even a slap on the wrist.

That said, fighting in the NHL is way down for many reasons.

I like to rile up gasman. But I'd rather take my chances on ice than on football field.

If Odell would and Norman would have done that cheap shit on the rink, they would have a few choices.

1) Man the fuck up and go at it -
2) Stop playing like a cheap cu nt -
3) Keep playing like a cheap cu nt and have someone other than those two pussies take your teeth out -

Believe me when I say this, I am 6'6 and played at about 235-240 and probably dropped the mits 70-75 times - There were a lot of mother fuckers on that rink I wanted no part of.

I'm not nitpicking. He said fighting is legal in NHL. NO ITS NOT! Just like elbowing, tripping, roughing, cross checking, etc are all illegal in hockey. If you get caught doing one of those, you will be penalized. If they were legal, there would be NO penalty. No nitpicking going on, just plain facts.
