is legal in the NHL? It's because there are real men playing a real sport. These jive ass so called NFL "tough guys" would be turtle-ing like a bitch if they actually had to take their helmets off and face each other mano y mano.
I get asked about fighting a lot because, well, I used to do it a lot. The most common question is why do they allow the fights.
The answer is simple, with several layers of complication.
Respect - you don't act like Beckham and Norman when you have the option to take the helmets off and go at it, without the risk of 52 teammates, coaches, trainers, media, fans etc. jumping into the fray to try to cleat or sucker punch somebody.
Let them step back and see who is the tougher man, or the more prepared man. I bet one or both of them would have passed on it.
You get more room when people fear you. Don't question it, it's true. If you are sitting there saying to yourself "it wouldn't change the way I play" - think again - you would not play a guy who has the option to whip your ass as closely or as physically with a guy who won't. Just a fact.
More to come - cleaning lady just showed up.
