It's a new world, one where someone isn't required to be a lifelong politician in order to rise to a high level of political office. Donald Trump, elected president of the United States just over a week ago, never held a political office before becoming the leader of the free world.
So it's not surprising to see lots of celebrities added to a list of potential candidates for 2020 in betting markets, including New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who was the most notable athlete/celebrity name on Bovada.lv's list of candidates.
Brady isn't favored to win -- goodness knows he could still be playing football -- and checks in as somewhat of a longshot for 2020 at 100-1.
But those odds are actually better than two of the people who were real candidatesin the 2016 election. Both Gary Johnson (500-1) and Jill Stein (300-1) netted a legitimate number of votes in a legitimate number of states and they are considered less likely by Bovada to win the presidential election than the quarterback of the New England Patriots.
In fairness, Brady would easily carry Massachusetts and most likely all six New England states, although one has to believe he would be less than popular in Indiana.
The list as a whole was a mix of actual politicians and celebrities.
President-elect Trump is the 2-1 favorite to win the election, while Vice President-elect Mike Pence is 10-1. Outgoing First Lady Michelle Obama is 12-1, while Hillary Clinton's running mate Tim Kaine is 14-1.
Clinton and Bernie Sanders are both 20-1.
Former Republican candidates Marco Rubio (33-1), John Kasich (40-1) and Jeb Bush (50-1) are all ahead of Brady.
But Chelsea Clinton (100-1) has the same odds as the Pats star, as do several celebs like Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, movie stars George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio and former WWE star and current actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Kanye West is also 100-1 to become the president!
A former president on the screen, Kevin Spacey, is 150-1 to win. You think he would be more qualified given his experience on House of Cards, but maybe his previous, ahem, behavior pushes him down a bit.
Not all the celebrities are ahead of Gary Johnson though. The 2016 Libertarian candidate is tied with Kim Kardashian (500-1) and Vince McMahon (500-1), so at least he has that going for him.
