Obama's Stimulus Creates 150,000 Jobs?

The other night during his press conference, Obama claimed that his
economic stimulus bill had "already saved or created 150,000 jobs."


For most of the dumb-masses out there, no one thought twice about this
statistic. Considering the fact that our economy has lost well over a million
jobs since Obama took office, one might wonder ... ummm
where did this statistic come from?

It turns out that the president is basing this number on estimates of what
his economic advisers THINK the economic stimulus bill is doing, rather than
what it is actually doing.

An Obama spokesman explains, "... the estimate does not mean that
employment has risen by 150,000. Rather, it means that employment is
150,000 higher than it otherwise would have been." The figure is simply an
estimate of the number of people hired to work directly on stimulus-funded
projects, as well as "jobs created by the tax cuts, aid to the states, and
other parts of the ARRA."


Question .... What tax cuts did the Obama administration provide that would allow for jobs to be created?


Doesn't really matter, though. You've seen those bumper stickers out there,
haven't you? "Obama said it. I believe it. That settles it."

For every job the government creates with this stimulus they are destroying at least one that would have been created if the stimulus didn't exist. Every dollar they spend must come from either tax revenue or through inflation. Both situations make everyone not directly receiving the stimulus at least equally poorer to those who benefit from the stimulus. This should be amazingly simple to understand yet it is obscured by government and millions of idiots believe it. It scares me that people who believe this stimulus bullshit actually have the right to vote; democracy sucks.

Obama gave tax cuts to people with lower incomes and raised taxes on people with higher incomes. The people who have higher incomes are more likely to employ people so since they are being taxed at a higher rate they lay people off as a result of lowered income. This happens any time you tax people with higher incomes. You also penalize people for getting higher education to make more money and you penalize those who take risks to start businesses.

Our country became great because we helped people start businesses, not by penalizing them. That's why Bush's tax cuts in 2003 helped grow the economy which is the opposite of what will happen with Obama's actions.

:toast: One other thing of note when you "create" these type of jobs is so many are quite short term projects. So are you creating jobs or are you just making temporary work for someone? What happens to the workers when that one mile bike trail is complete?

Does anyone else think it's not a coincidence that GTC made these comments to a poster that said Obama created more than 150,000 jobs? thus suggesting Obama's not taking enough credit?

Truth is, nobody fucking knows, and probably never will. It's highly unlikely that any government spending plan can have such an immediate impact, especially since the overwhelming majority part of that plan is not even disbursed. Think about the process for 30 seconds.

And there's no way to measure any impact this quickly. The fact that they're taking so much credit so quickly for so many things (see Wil's thread) only proves that they're a bunch of liars. Or maybe I should state that differently, "their words are cheap".
