I love this new expanding health care bill. Being completely financed by a hike on federal sales tax on cigarettes.

funded by taxation on an industry who's sales volume continues to slow

it sounds nice on paper

trust me, it'll be fine. people arn't going to stop smoking. and when you pay 50 cents more on your next pack, you can say hey, i'm helping out these kids who arn't covered.

Interesting but not novel enough in my opinion. Still needs to have more and much more gooder Doctors and Health Care plans for the people that are sick. Needs much more focused medical research and active stem cell activities in my opinion.

american cigarette sales volume is decreasing has been for years

there are less packs being sold ever year in america....this is a fact

this is nothing new

the cigarette companies themselves have been raising prices to make up to the declining volumes

internationally is still at growing market for the cig makers

you can have declining sales for 10 years(which i dont believe about declining sales) and you'll still have the program covered.

people arn't going to stop smoking. and i think they'll expand it to tobacco shortly.

Would this tax hike on cigs only be levied against those making over a certain income say $200,000? Or were they lying when they stated "those making under $200,000 would see NO increase in taxes only the top 1% would be affected"
Pack a day smoker at .62 per pack increase will have their taxes raised over $225 per year. Smoking is disgusting so it will not have an impact on me. Maybe we could fight obesity and levy taxes on fast food. Change Change Change.

this is why phillip morris broke itself up into 2

MO is the american high litigation risk, high taxation, number of packs being sold declining

PM is the internation market, litigation risk less, lower taxation, number of packs being sold increasing

Won’t work. Cigarettes can be purchased from Indian smoke shops in person and thru the internet tax free.

Tiz, anyone can buy them tax free from any Indian reservation on the net or from Russia for that matter. I can get a generic brand for $1.11 a pack + shipping.

what's funny is the kids and low income families who may reap the rewards now will end up paying for the red ink it produces down the road at which point the cost will be much more

entitlements are fun!!! :grandmais
